[identity profile] wordswordswords.insanejournal.com posting in [community profile] scans_daily
I just got around to reading this place again, and remembered that once upon a time I had posted to the old scans_daily with Books of Magic scans that hey, I still have around. And there are only two Books of Magic entries, so here. (8 pages scanned, issue was longer than 22; writer John Ney Rieber and illustrator Peter Snejbjerg.)

She meets Tim's friends Tanger and Crimple, but unfortunately, after a while, she has to, well, go to the bathroom. Only Tim's magic imaginary place doesn't, you know, HAVE any. So she goes off into the thick bramble, and after she's done...

Tim to the rescue! Only first he has to figure out where she is, so he carves an 'M' on a coin and flips it. No deal.

I only got to read up to "Girl in the Box", and my library doesn't have "Burning Girl", so I never saw for myself what happened to Molly although I do know. Does anyone have any scans? Books of Magic was my first comic and I love it. Even if no one else does B|. Also, I notice we apparently have no Gotham Central (otherwise known as CSI: Gotham) scans, so I will fix that with the time they shot Batman.

My library stopped stocking it, but I read the Trade. SPOILERS: After the Governess attempts to brainwash Molly, Tim finds her. In their joyous, relieved reunion, they kiss; this introduction of 'Love' into hell actually begins to make everything take a less nightmarish quality, e.g. the Governess becomes a beautiful woman asleep in a coffin, waiting for her Prince or some such.

So pink dinosaurs in hell talk Claremont-esque baby-speak? You know, that doesn't surprise me as much it might have once upon a time.

I would suggest you retreat to the depths of the internets and make use of the resources that shall not be Named. That's what I did and I got to peruse the parts of Books of Magic that my library didn't have (which was, frankly, almost half...).

It's an awesome story and if you don't mind spoilers I'll tell you:

Basically, she goes to faerie, ends up pissing off Titania (which, to be honest, wasn't hard) and her hatred (and I think her slight mental illness if I remember correctly) makes it such that anything she touches bursts into flames. She ends up confronting Titania, who finally apologizes, but Molly accidentally eats some fruit. Titania sends her back to earth, but she is not able to touch the ground or eat/drink anything. Tim (being the oblivious kid that he is) doesn't notice, and Molly gets upset at him and leaves off to places unknown.

I don't remember anything after that. I think that's where the Books of faerie pick up, and I don't remember if I read those.

Of course a whole lot of stuff happens while this is going on (Tim hangs out with one of the old rulers of Faerie, Hell comes to collect the Tithe, etc.)

The Books of Magic are and always will be one of my favorite comic series of all time and I'm happy to spread the love. I should scan some of the issues I have (I have every issue not collected in trade).

I have all the issues in my room somewhere, I can look into finding a scanner and posting them.

Hell seems to be a fan of Barney, actually.

Books of Magic annoys me because I have read most of the volumes but not all, and the only to fix that now is to read the whole series from beginning to end. And that means hunting them down in the libraries. *sigh* Which I guess I'll have to do because this post renewed my interest (I vaguely remember reading this but no idea how it turned out).

And Gotham Central <3 That was the first Bat series I bought in trades (just a year ago, I'm a relatively new Bat fan).

In Tim's defense, he was under a sort-of spell without knowing it at the time, that simply made him distance himself from everyone he cared about. (He'd wanted a sure way of making certain he wouldn't bring danger to his loved ones, and the spell was making that happen by making sure he wouldn't have any loved ones left.)

I love this. ^_^ Books of Magic had a very original interpretation of Hell -- pretty corny and whimsical, and completely without most of the "classic" parts such as fire pits and tortured damned souls... but there's still something deeply disturbing and sinister about it, much of it hinted at rather than outright stated.

there's nothing about this scan I don't like. Molly's great, she reminds me of Tiffany Aching the Wee Free Men and the mood's similar to what I've seen of Coraline (thank you Neil Gaiman). I second the request for scans

I'm pretty sure Molly was just annoyed at Tim for not noticing that she was floating, she left because she discovered that he spent their time apart with Leah in the desert, making out with/almost sleeping with her. This was particularly hurtful because she came close to cheating on Tim, but stayed loyal to him, and told him about it the moment they met again, unlike Tim who hid his time with Leah.

The really great thing about that crossover was that Tim coped with John Constantine's Hell extremely well, because it wasn't his idea of Hell, and so he pretty much saved the day and got them both out.

Books of Magic is just awesome. ^_^

Right but the order is a bit different. She goes to Faerie because she inadvertantly ends up in a bet with Titania's fool who is the greater fool. In order not to have to eat elfish food she grows her own food. But as she's pissed off Titania, Titania mixes some elvish fruit into Molly's garden. Molly eats them, and as a result becomes part fae, in this case, and due to her anger, the burning girl. The joke's on Tiitania, as Molly goes around terrorizing Farie. eventually they kind of make a truce. Molly can return to Earth, but slightly flaots as she may never touch the ground again and, as she can'T stomach human food anymore, Titania gives her a magic bag of elvish food.

Oh. Oh, so fucking creepy.

Also, did anyone else notice the thing with the blocks in the panels and what they're spelling out? Only enhances the creepy factor.
