Date: 2009-10-14 10:11 pm (UTC)Uh... okay, Magneto thinking you're doing things right may be cause to reassess your life.
But I like him having trouble kneeling down.

Date: 2009-10-14 10:16 pm (UTC)Personally I'm not sure that Scott deserves the honor he's receiving here. I haven't been reading this title, but I have a hard time believing that a guy who believed cheating on his wife was the only way he could deal with her emotionally distancing herself from him. It makes no sense to me.
Which is all to say that as someone who is not a Scott fan, I have a hard time seeing why anyone would love him this much.

Date: 2009-10-14 10:31 pm (UTC)I'm all for giving Scott credit for what he's done right so far, but that was laying it on a bit thick. Land's difficulty with expressions is, as usual, not helping.

Date: 2009-10-14 11:10 pm (UTC)...Which, incidentally, make no sense. I realise that Fraction has swapped around those two words, but they're still more indicative of a dead leader than a living one. And since when would Magneto know them? Doesn't he despise all human culture?

Date: 2009-10-15 01:42 am (UTC)Turns out that Kuan Yin Xorn was just Kuan Yin Xorn, under the control of Sublime and gone mad on Kick deluding himself into thinking he was Magneto.
The real Magneto had never left Genosha after the massacre and was hanging out there trying to rebuild. Xavier joined him in Exclibur Vol. 3 and the two men had been no good terms ever since...until this issue where for some unknown reason, they were acting like bitchy new exes running into each other at a mutual friend's party.
(Though to would be very amusing if Magnus and Charles were actually working together to oust Scott from leadership and this whole bitchy ex thing was an act. But we are talking about Matt "I want to be Cyclop's Baby Momma" Fraction, so I doubt it.)
But your point is valid, as the last time the X-Men saw Magneto in Uncanny #500, he attacked them with sentinels. (Which after the Genoshan Massacre made just about as much sense as Magneto using SS troops to attack Jews, but it's Fraction so...)
And yet Cyclops not only invites him in, he tell Magneto about their most important piece of intel.
So no, none of it makes any sense. Even Magento's behavior just within the context of just this story does not make sense.

Date: 2009-10-15 03:16 am (UTC)Up until recently he has been a figure head leader at best. during messiah complex he actually began to lead and to show how brilliant Charles always claimed he was (actually i think it started some where near the Quest for Magick arc of New-Xmen).
While i did not care for Morrison's run (killing Jean like that after she umm... burned up in the sun and got better an issue before was VERY annoying to me.) He did give us Scott and Emma (yes the way we got them was.... messy, but he also gave us White Phoenix of the Crown ithink... so all is forgiven, other writers have actually made the Scott/Emma thing better. In my head their relationship did not start until Here comes tomorrow) what i HATED was Emo Scott and Figure head scott before him.
now Scott is actually planning. Epic Level planing, yes some plans were... objectionable or poorly thought out (X-Force?... dont get me wrong kinda love that series... sans X-23 torture, i think Kimura needs to visit Emma again) but they have also showed him with faults and regrets and doubts. this is some of the best Scott Summers we have seen in a long time. why the Scott hate?
wow... this was apretty bi-polar post lol
i miss demonoid..... :(

Date: 2009-10-15 03:44 pm (UTC)He has the intent right, but the line wrong. The actual phrase is: "I come to bury Ceasar, not to praise him." Of course, Antony is using Sarcasm there to strike down Brutus publicly for murdering Ceasar...but if you're going to bother with a quote, you should mention you're altering it or choose another.
"ANTONY. Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears!
I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.
The evil that men do lives after them,
The good is oft interred with their bones;
So let it be with Caesar. The noble Brutus
Hath told you Caesar was ambitious;
If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
And grievously hath Caesar answer'd it.
Here, under leave of Brutus and the rest-
For Brutus is an honorable man;
So are they all, all honorable men-
Come I to speak in Caesar's funeral.
He was my friend, faithful and just to me;
But Brutus says he was ambitious,
And Brutus is an honorable man.
He hath brought many captives home to Rome,
Whose ransoms did the general coffers fill.
Did this in Caesar seem ambitious?
When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept;
Ambition should be made of sterner stuff:
Yet Brutus says he was ambitious,
And Brutus is an honorable man.
You all did see that on the Lupercal
I thrice presented him a kingly crown,
Which he did thrice refuse. Was this ambition?
Yet Brutus says he was ambitious,
And sure he is an honorable man.
I speak not to disprove what Brutus spoke,
But here I am to speak what I do know.
You all did love him once, not without cause;
What cause withholds you then to mourn for him?
O judgement, thou art fled to brutish beasts,
And men have lost their reason. Bear with me;
My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar,
And I must pause till it come back to me."

Date: 2009-10-16 02:04 pm (UTC)I mean Magento's character is pretty chaotic (evil-evil, kind-of-evil, not-so-bad and good-but-misguided) but consistently has an ego the size of a small moon.
tTe flip side of his soul-deep you'll-never-beat-me determination to survive is a kind of superiority complex where no-one can beat him, therefore he's superior. I just can't see him doing this, even as part of a greater plan.
