There is no way to say "nurp" and not sound like a Frank Oz Muppet. :)

One of the best fights ever! Now if only someone would do that to Ares.

But really I am glad at the fact that Thor can fight dirty.

It's another Pak Attack!

I think Pak is plotting and Van Lente is doing dialogue, but I'm not sure if that's how they divide the tasks.

Either way, it's arguably one of the best comics in print right now. The best part is that even if you set the comedy aside (but why would you?), it's STILL a good comic.

Fun? FUN? In a Big Two comic title that isn't in their children's line?

When the hell did this happen?

Date: 2009-10-16 06:07 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thatnickguy.insanejournal.com
Shhh! Don't let them onto the secret or we'll start seeing Herc tearing off people's heads, emptying them out and using them as serving platters.

You know. For kids!

I want them to eventually reveal a little known god of comical sound effects who follows Herc around waiting for amusing opportunities.

And I hope he's a magical combination of Paul Lynde and Liberace. Whenever he makes a bad joke he tops it off with "Ah hwwwwedgie!"

Shouldn't he just look like Don Martin?

Aside: you do know why I said Don Martin, don't you? (Though yes, the few pictures I've seen of the man are visually unprepossessing-- except that he smiles like his own drawings...)

definitely something drawn by Don Martin, with rediculously small fairy wings

This is my favorite comic ever now. It reminds me of the Harmony-Xander from Buffy. Except with Gods and more partial nudity.

Thor should be shirtless more often.

Speaking of shirtlessness, I'd just like to take a moment to be in awe of the art. They're both huge and impressive and badass, without looking like they should pop if you poke them. I approve. And, of course, the facial expressions only add to the comedy gold.

Serious question time!!

Anyone know how this book is doing on sales? Is there clear and present danger of this cancelling or, zeus-forbid, going back to Incredible Hulk?

Considering my last two enjoyable books that pumped out pure awesome, Blue Beetle and Spider-Girl got canned, I figured this must be circling the drain because it is so much awesome.

From: [identity profile] colonel_green.insanejournal.com
They've already revived the Incredible Hulk title, so that's not going to happen.

As to sales, it does reasonably well. It's in the 60s/70s on the Diamond chart, numbers in the mid/low 30K. Obviously it's not a series that can stand to lose too many readers, but it's fairly strong given what it is, and Marvel's higher-ups are clearly fans of it. The upcoming story is getting some decent promotion as well (special prologue and all), so hopefully that will attract some additional people.

HA-HA... comic relief.

When I look at this, I can't help but think of that kid that Herc told his story with Herc. Imagine him looking at the two now...

"And these guys save the world?"
