The original story was one of the highpoints of the Silver Age, FANTASTIC FOUR# 57. It provided most of the plot for the second Fantastic Four movie, as well. But it was not until NOT BRAND ECCH# 1 in 1967 that Stan Lee and Jack Kirby let us in on the real events behind the legends.

Worth checking at the higher size for the surfing cross medallion, the book BUTTERFLIES I HAVE LOVED and more.

How funny do you think it would be if the talent at Marvel got to do satirical send ups of each other today ???

At one point Marvel put out "What the?" and it didn't last long. John Byrne did an issue called "it's bite the hand that feeds you week".

Probably pretty funny, actually - there IS a fair amount of genuine talent at Marvel, it just tends to groan under the burden of editorial mandate.

I think the "events" are starting to become that.

I love how Stan and Jack were aware enough of the flaws in their work that they could cheerfully lampoon it with such reckless abandon. It's a type of humility that a number of comics creators today could stand a bit of.

I don't think there's any problem with taking it seriously as fiction - the problem is when you forget it's fiction, and start thinking of it as reality.

This may be the only reference I've seen in Silver Age comics to going to the bathroom.
