Chances are that if you owned ANY DC licensed merchandise in the late 70's or early 80's it either featured art by, or based on, work done by Jose-Luis Garcia-Lopez and Dick Giordano, two stalwarts of the organisation, who produced acres of top notch, lovely licensing art.
The art would be used from notepads to action figures, from t-shirts to underoos, and so had to be both simple and stylish, easily reproduced and instantly recognisable. They could hardly have asked for better!
The attached pics are scanned as best I can, and hopefully might bring a little happiness to your desktop should you wish to tweak them that way.

First the gentlemen... (Note that despite being out on his own for years by the time this was used, poor Dick still get's the batlogo behind his name. Of course, few people would be paying much attention to his LOGO)

And the ladies too of course, with Bab's up first supplying some equal opportunities hot ass (I may not be interested, but I can appreciate the aesthetics). I LOVE the Catwoman logo for some reason. It would never do as a comic headline, but it would work on a T-shirt, which is where this one appeared I think.
Here we see the old secret identity switcheroo.... Though Bruce... a BROWN dinner jacket? ICK! Rest assured Alfred will be taking a flamethrower to it first chance he gets, if you're lucky he'll let you take it off first.

And the bad guys get a look in too of course

A couple of heroic clashes. I love the Riddler one here, the butterfly net for BATMAN rather than him is an inspired touch.

And a couple of images of the Happy Couple... I'm sorry, I mean the Dynamic Duo (Yeah Dick you swing in there crotch first, there's not a bad guy would put up a fight!)

The artists did more, MANY more, for a wider variety of heroes than the Batfamily of course. We got Superman, Wonder Woman and the Flash to name but a few
These, however, are the largest colour images I have, taken from a calendar issued in the UK a couple of years ago.
And the real reason for this repost is that I have finally obtained a genuinely classic "Grail Piece", the ORIGINAL art for the Robin turnaround...

Date: 2009-11-07 02:51 am (UTC)I love it when characterization comes through so clearly in art.
Go Jose-Luis Garcia-Lopez and Dick Giordano!
You really did do very well, Icon!

Date: 2009-11-07 11:52 am (UTC)Come to think of it, if Batman was also the movie version - by which, of course, I mean the original Tim Burton movie - that might actually make for a REALLY interesting team-up. The two movies are actually very similar, in a way - they both feature spectacular artificial worlds dominated by mob-related crime, and watched over by a lone crimefighter with a distinctive outfit. Tracy's nameless city is almost a technicolor mirror version of Gotham, minus the more gothic aspects. I can picture Tracy having a 'where does he get those wonderful toys?' moment, too - given his fondness for the two-way wrist radio, he would probably be severely jealous of Batman's arsenal of gadgets. Come on, tell me you can't see this working - the black-rubber body-armored version of Bats alongside Dick Tracy in his yellow trenchcoat, the Joker and Big Boy trying to out-ham one another (THAT would be a sight), Tess Trueheart and Vicki Vale bonding over cups of coffee - it's a natural!
(The only thing that WOULDN'T be able to happen, unfortunately, would be a Kid/Robin rivalry, because Robin isn't in the Burton films. Oh, well - you can't have everything.)

Date: 2009-11-07 02:43 pm (UTC)I would lament that Selina's not also in a turnaround, but it's not like we don't get 100 chances to see her booty for each chance to see Bruce's. That logo of hers is nice and out of the ordinary. But let's lose the whiskers, I'm not a fan of facial hair, especially for women.
For that matter, the term "turnaround" is always followed by "Stick it out!" in my head.
Yeah, Bruce's brown suit is very 70s. Completely fails with a red cummerbund and bow tie - is it supposed to be a tux or not? Maybe as a three piece business suit, brown since Clark monopolized navy blue.
