Lovely art to one side, I have to say that Rima's nose chain is possibly the least sensible, most instantly-eye-watering, super-heroic accessory I've ever seen!

Actually, I have to say that the Black Canary thing is the first and only thing I've found awesome about First Wave. And even that is more of a potential awesomeness, as I'm not really fond of Azzarello and don't really see him writing asian Dinah as cool as she could be.

Also, what the hell is up with Dinah's mask? It looks like her mascara exploded.

Absolutely loving the art. Really captures a lot of the masterpieces of yesteryear. All the subtleties.

Especially in a jungle. Stuff catches on you!

It is a very bad pun. And extremely typical of a florist. I pass a "Little Shop of Flowers" when I go to one of the facilities I support, it's in Brooklyn.

I dare you to beat that for tasteless.

That's been the name of Dinah's florist shop since at least the early 1970's.

I know one called "Oops a Daisy" which is pretty bad! :)

... Ebony White as a "brash girl."

This will either be awesome, or awesomely bad.

I guess, as a straight white guy myself, I've learned to be leery of the way guys like me write black women, which tend to have less to do with writing non-stereotypical characters, and more to do with White Authors Working Out Their Issues With Black People On The Printed Page.

Oh goodie, they redesigned Canary and gave her an inappropriately stomach baring costume. Thanks DC!

Looking more and more cool. Retro. Noir potential. Does it have a designation as one of the 52?

Rima = Kida - pierced nose?

Canary looks good...from the waist up.

The shorts don't work.

But the makeup smudge in lieu of a mask is awesome.

I don't have much nostalgia for the Golden Age, but I rather like the art so far and the reimagining of Golden Age Black Canary is interesting.

This could be potentially disastrous (the sassy black woman thing has me a little wary, same with the rationale behind Canary's ethnicity), but yeah...cautiously optimistic.

Arrgh, typos

Oh, I'm pretty sure they reference it in a Secret Origins issue. I thought you were just stunned by the horrid pun and reference to Ollie.

He's got a couple things wrong about the Avenger. Benson didn't have pitch-black eyes. Every story mentions how light grey, almost colorless his irises were. And it wasn't just that he was a master of disguise but that the flesh of his face was malleable and could be shaped like putty. This is such a vivid and distinctive trait that it's funny it would be passed up.

Still, none of this is the "real" Doc Savage, Avenger, Spirit, Rima or Black Canary. It's just still another take on the characters, and worth giving a shot to see how things develop.
