Dido reveals what will be happening to some DC characters next year on Newsarama. Good news for Zatanna and Black Canary fans especially.

DiDio: It sure is. Paul Dini's doing it. Stephane Roux is the artist to start the series, and Chad Hardin will be working with him as well. And that should be coming out beginning this coming April.

Hopefully I'm not too far mistaken in assuming that this means that Dinah will be hanging out with Babs and Hel again. I really can't think of who else he would be talking about...

And the Zee series is finally, officially coming out next year. I'm having a hard time not jumping for joy.

For legality: Dinah hanging out with her buds.

If I had to do some guessing based on Didio's usual (opaque) answers I'd say Ollie becomes a wanted man into hiding and Dinah goes to team up with her pals to help him (hence the big GA story Didio has been promising for 2010 - Green Arrow: Wanted Dead or Alive or something like that.

As for Zatanna, the April date could just be a coincidence as to when they have enough Roux artwork ready but the minute I read I couldn't help but also think that the Search/Return of Bruce Wayne is rumored to be in Summer 2010 and that Dini is also a major player in the Bat-books (and a huge Bruce/Zee shipper). I can't but think Zatanna will play a role of some kind in Mr. Wayne's return.

I am getting a little tired of all the equivocating over the Marvel Family though. It's not like something big is going to happen to them in 2010 (you never hear either Batsons named in the big plans Didio is always talking about for 2010) so just let us know if they'll be showing up after the PoS one-shot. I can't forget that several months back Didio also said Billy and Mary were going to appear in several DC books in the coming months (but wouldn't name them) and now several months later - nada.

I admit I also thought Ivan Reis was going to handle a new Aquaman book with Johns. Geoff has already said he has big plans for Mera and Black Manta and I would be hugely surprised if both Arthur and Tempest weren't back at the end of BN. So how many books is Johns writing in 2010? Flash, GL, possible JLA or Aquaman book (with Gary Frank?) and the Reis book. This in addition to writing the Flash and Shazam screenplays?

Interesting that you bring up the link between Zatanna's series' launch and the supposed return of Bruce Wayne, especially considering that Zee was one of the miniseries that made up Seven Soldiers, which along with Morrison's JLA Classified three-parter, led into Final Crisis to some degree. So it would be interesting to see that sort-of come full circle and have Zee be the one who screws up the Omega Effect or whatever it was.

That said, I'm not thrilled by the idea of Zee continuing to be lumped with the Bat-Family, personally. Ever since Dini came along, her appearances have primarily been relegated to Detective Comics and anything he writes, barring appearances in JLA, and it just feels... Wrong. Somehow. Like the only validation for her existence right now is some TV episode written years ago, and Dini just wants to keep on mining that for all it's worth.

Oh joy, more Dini-written Zatanna. I just cannot wait to experience another dollop of ludicrous cheesecake, ham-handed dialogue, plots that go nowhere and do nothing, and page after page of introspection about how much she likes Batman.

I liked Zee better in Seven Soldiers, when she actually had friends from beyond the super-hero community, the world of magic actually seemed to be its own distinct place, and she was able to prove her skills and abilities even when unable to do magic.

I'm not saying Morrison should be constantly writing her; but at least give her to someone who understands that she's as powerful a figure as Dr. Fate or Madame Xanadu, if not more so, rather than tits, teeth and a couple of glib conjuring tricks. I for one would love to see a spin on her by someone like Greg Rucka, Pete Tomasi or even Kathryn Immonen.
