Wonderful. I see we're ignoring Babs and Helena's friendship for a rawr! bitchy girls-who-fight-over-a-man portrayal. Awesome, Daniels. Awesome.

And Christ, this is not a dress, that is a hooker costume. How is it even staying on?

Sheer force of will.

And hey, if they wanted to distract people from anything Dick might be doing... well, mission accomplished!

We don't know that's happening.

Me too, Superfan1. And I want to know how Selina fits into this whole storyline.

Yeah, it might not happen--but from what we see in the pages, it could easily spin into that direction.

I read the whole issue, so I'm basing it on that, too. And any story could go in almost any direction. We'll have to wait and see, but no reason to jump to conclusions about women as bitches.

i'm sorry, but this does not look like a hooker costume at all. if it were, it would end right around her butt and have minimal fabric.

frankly, i think it's rather elegant and I'm glad Tony Daniel is giving the ladies a chance to look so polished outside their costumes. Helena B looks gorgeous here.

As for the awkward moment with Babs. It seems to be just that. It's not like Tony Daniel wrote her as deliberately out to steal him from Babs.

I agree with you comments about the dress, a couple of rather odd depictions to one side, I think it's rather attractive.

Agreed. This is the sort of thing Jenifer Lopez would have worn 5 years ago. It's outrageous, but it fits her cover as a beautiful woman showing off, possibly trying to land a rich husband, which I'm guessing would help her blend in with this crowd.

Well, I actually had this one in mind when I made the comment(http://s11.bdbphotos.com/images/orig/a/b/abhkzrm52ait25iz.jpg), the infamous green Grammys dress. I know next to nothing about her these days, but that video was pretty cool.

Yeah, gotta disagree. Thigh slit that high+cleavage down to her navel+backless to the point of mooning everyone does not an elegant dress make. She looks ridiculous.

backless to the point of mooning everyone

Huh?
Image

That's just a lowish back. No danger of mooning.

And obviously, opinions differ on fashion. This is not new.

Versace did a lot of dresses like that. Liz Hurley always looked smashing in them.

There is a huge difference between a beautifully-draped garment put out by one of the largest fashion houses in the world worn by a fairly moderately endowed actress and a badly-drawn dress on a mediocrely-drawn women with breasts the sizes of grapefruit . . . what I'm trying to say is, no matter how well Liz Hurley could pull a similar dress off, it's still badly executed here, imo.

Meh, it's too J-Lo for me. Yes, I have seen J-Lo and Liz Hurley wear stuff like that. I never liked their style and I feel it's all wrong for Helena's personality. She's a school-teacher, someone who likes to put the fear of God in men and who KNOWS understated elegance works best to look sexy without having a slew of men trying to get handsy with her.

See, that dress shows off too much to be tasteful, IMO. If you show off the back, you must either be better covered up in front or if not, your legs should be covered. If you're going for a super-short skirt, show less cleavage. If you're going for plunging neckline, cover your back and wear a long skirt with a single thigh-high slit. And esp if you're going for a daring plunge-to-belly-button like that, keep the rest of you fully covered.

The line between sexy and slutty is in knowing exactly how much to reveal.

Even if she wasn't a mafia princess in addition to being a school teacher, school teachers actually can and do sometimes dress sexy. No slew of men is going to get handsy with her at this particular party, and she's supposed to be a distraction. Don't know if you've watched it, but I'm thinking of the Sopranos, and what one of the female characters on that show might wear to a similar party.

I also don't think it's helpful to label people as slutty, period. And particularly unhelpful to label women as slutty based on what they are wearing.

I don't agree with your fashion tips, but even if I did, sounds like you'd approve of her dress if only her back was fully covered. (If you're going for plunging neckline, cover your back and wear a long skirt with a single thigh-high slit.) It's a style choice, no a moral choice, which goes to the 'slutty' comment as well.

I think sluts exist, and I apply this to both men and women. And I think that outfits that make you look like a hooker are slutty, but you're right, in this case it IS somewhat excessive to describe it (high society escorts are more understated anyway, I'm told).

It's more like, having everything gape open all over the place comes across as unattractively desperate and attention seeking. I'm not at all asking anyone to wear a burqa, but sexy is a subtle art which involves more teasing and less revealing. This is why, in my opinion, the saree is one of the sexiest things a woman can wear because a saree worn well serves two functions: concealing as much of you as possible while wanting to make a man unwrap you like a gift...slowly.

"The line between sexy and slutty is in knowing exactly how much to reveal."

I somewhat agree with this statement, but I don't think it's as cut and dried in terms of the rules you state. IMO, that line is different for each woman. Whether one is perceived sexy or slutty has to do more with
a) how the piece of clothing fits one's body type (i.e. the same T-shirt that looks innocuous on an average woman might look differently on someone with exaggerated proportions) and
b) how a woman projects herself (i.e. her body language, confidence, speech patterns, etc.)

I thought the dress was daring, yes, but appropriate given the setting and even when applying your 2 out of 3 rule. The front and back were cut low, but the slit is actually hidden in the folds of the gown (there's a copious amount of fabric in the lower half of her gown). You actually only see it because she raises her leg in the first panel.

I haven't read much of Huntress so it's not jarring for me to see her in this outfit (personally, I think she looks most beautiful here), but I understand if her fans might have a different opinion.

maybe you weren't looking for a real answer, but double sided tape works nicely... most of the time
