masterofmidgets: (cap wants to eat your brains)
[personal profile] masterofmidgets posting in [community profile] scans_daily
To break in the new and shiny Scans_Daily 3.0, I come bearing five pages from Cable & Deadpool #25, in which Captain America completely fails at being undercover, but succeeds in being awesome.

(Deadpool doesn't actually show up in this story, but I still love this page)

Anyway, SHIELD is suspicious of what Cable is doing on his floating island, so holographic!Fury sends Cap undercover to spy on him.

I don't think he gets how undercover names are supposed to work...but I really love how happy Steve is here.

Bonus!Scan - when I was at Yaoi-Con last month, Jo Chen had a table in the Dealer's Room to promote her new work, and I picked this up and got it signed. I'm not even that into Dick/Tim, but...well.

Wasn't Steve's dual identity public knowledge at this point though?

Always liked a little bit of 4th-wall-breakage in the recap page.

I will always love that piece of fanart primarily because of the excited, Phoenix Wright-esque Batman. And also the sexiness.

So I'm guessing that Cap gives a vote of 'this guy's awesome, don't nuke him'?

The nosebleed really sells it.

He was also (to my knowledge) a shape shifter.

I like to imagine that everyone he met knew exactly who he was, and just humored him.

Oh, Steve. You don't feel right without a letter on your forehead, do you?

"Roger Stevens" also came up in that one in-universe comic where someone timetraveled back to the forties, met Cap and Bucky, and became the new Bucky when the real one was killed. That Cap had dark hair and was called "Roger Stevens". There were a bunch of snarky riffs on the movie. It had the line "Only one of this is walking out of here - and it won't be me! Because I have a motorcycle!" and there was a note that the Captain America's usual artist, Steve Rogers, had refused to pencil this because he said Cap wouldn't act like this.

It was on old S_D, but the title of the post isn't in my Memories, so I can't find it on the backup. Sadface.

I think that was one of the "Marvels Comics" issues, showing what the in-universe comic books are like. The Captain America one was "written" by professional sidekick Rick Jones, supposedly of an actual adventure he had. I think Steve stopped pencilling halfway through because he didn't want to draw Bucky's death-by-random-Nazi-spy.

There were several other comics in that vein as well. The Spider-Man comic had a heroic J. Jonah Jameson battling a monsterous Spider-Beast, and the X-Men were mutant criminals kidnapped by a secret government experiment and forced to perform dangerous wetwork jobs where their chances of survival were small. A "suicide squad," if you will. It (intentionally) got several characters' powers hilariously wrong, as well as saying that Dr. Strange was a mutant cannibal from Louisiana.
