So those are Tom Selleck and MJ.

Who are the other two? Is the blond one Billy Idol? And is the other one... John Travolta?! O_o

Did Sting ever wear his hair like that? He wore his hair down, but Idol had it like that.

All the videos I've seen of him with The Police show him with shorter hair. :P

Check him out in David Lynch's version of Dune sometime. You'll see a lot more of him than his head, I guarantee you.

I did not know about this, thanks!

Srsly, next Constantine movie, they could conscript Sting for the Pandemonium arc.

Just goes to show you what happens when you get too literal with pop culture. Didn 't Sunspot always say, "what would Magnum do ?".

Sunspots obsession with Magnum PI has been a running gag since his first appearances.

I don't mind it, really.

When reading in the time periode it's published, it gives you a feeling of being anchored to the real world, instead of a bubble that's not actually anywhere at all.

When you look back and read it many years later, it's sort of like a window into another time. Sure, it interrupts the flow a little as you realize how out of date it is, but it's worth a smile.

And most of the time, you're going to be dating yourself anyway, it'll just be in subtler ways, fashions, social mores, etc.

Personally, I'd rather they use real timely pop culture references than make up fake pop culture references for their own universe, which always tend to annoy me even more (one of my pet peeves, mostly on television... whenever you see a TV show on another TV show, that they've made up to have somebody watching, it's always ridiculously poorly acted or given a title that you can't believe would ever make it to air).

Even at the heights of "Thrillermania", I had a hard time parsing Michael Jackson as "a hunk". Let's face facts, even 100% natural Jacko was never the most masculine guy around.

The "OMG TEH PRETTEH" I get. It's the "He's a hunk" thing that throws me.

The "He's a hunk" is probably the result of a dude writing this who's never really heard women talking to each other about hot guys first hand. It's a bit of a Hollywood cliche.

Also, a sleepover? Really? "Yeah, let's just invite a bunch of people over who don't know we're mutants, I'm sure nothing bad will happen!" :) Thanks for posting this Sandoz!
