part 2 here

a few years have passed. Clark and Lois got married. Clark's parents thought it was funny he married a Lois. Lois' parents are more weirded out by her marrying a Clark Kent than someone who wasn't Indian.

things aren't exactly perfect. the government is still looking for him but he's gotten good at spotting them. every once in a while, he likes to mess with them.

but enough of that for now. what's going on at home? could there have been a hidden meaning behind that greeting card? well, duh.

so how does Clark take this?

after he's had time to think about it, though, he starts to worry. what if they his kids inherit his powers? if they don't, does that mean the government wouldn't go after them anyway? that's for the next post.

One of my friends, a huuuuge sci-fi nerd asked me to recommend some comics. I started her with this and it was a huge hit. But when she asked me "Do you have any more like this?" I had to admit I didn't and couldn't think of anything like it. Still can't. So, S-Ders, can anyone suggest another book that's similar to this? Great art, smart writing, clever story, continuity light... and in-print would be nice, too!

Superman for All Seasons and All Star Superman would probably work. Both are very light continuity wise despite All Star referencing DC One Million. But I'm not sure if it quite fits all the criteria.

PS238 by Aaron Williams has been a hit with my non-comic fan friends.

Ex Machina, by Brian K. Vaughan. It's about a guy with superpowers who tries to do the costumed hero thing for a while, but then decides that it's not enough, and he wants to do some real good.

So he publicly unmasks and runs for mayor of New York City as an independent. And wins.

Vertigo title with no connection to any other universe's continuity, a smart story that's about equal parts sci-fi and political drama, and handsome art that's a textbook example of photo-reference done RIGHT. (SEE, Greg Land? SEE?! It can be done!)

Thanks so much for the excellent recommendations. Slightly embarrassed to admit that many of these are actually in my collection: Astro City (good call); All-Star Superman (love it, but maybe too Inside Baseball for a new reader - so much of it's charm is the wacky take on Silver Age era); ExMachina (yes - I've actually drifted off this title, even though I enjoy it. And good point about the use of photo reference); PS238, I don't know but will investigate. And what about We3? I've heard it's excellent - is it "new reader" friendly?

I'll second Astro City. I wouldn't recommend Dark Ages to a non comics person, but Tarnished Angel, Confession, and and Nearness of You are great stories regardless of the medium.

Why am I tempted to start a blog about reported sightings of a flying man in a red cape?

Is it just me or does Lois in this series look like Tana Moon from Superboy?

I love this. I used to hate Superman. Oh Scans Daily, what have you done to me?

Before you know it, you'll be lusting after pictures of Dick Grayson tied up.
