As everyone knows, I absolutely adore the Phantom Stranger. He's a pretty cool dude.


The dude wrestles and evaporates lions.




He's got totally awesome almost-infinite magic powers, but if you're immune to magic, he can still kick your ass the old-fashioned way.




And he can fuck around with your mind, too, if he doesn't feel like dirtying his opera-gloves too much.



He gets around.



No, not like that.

I mean he always gets the girl. Ladies love P.S.



I can see why.

He's got the smoothest lines, and has kind of a Gentleman Snarker thing going on:





But for however badass he is, he's a pretty nice guy, too. He babysits his friends' nieces and throws games of Candyland for them.





Or he'll go off and fetch groceries for his girlfriend without complaining, even though he could be off fighting elder gods and stuff.



And for all his Gentleman Snarking, he seems to have a sort of daydreamy and, I dunno, wistful? view of the world.



Yeah, he's pretty damn awesome.

Not almost as awesome as Phantom Stranger going out to buy bread from the shop around the corner...and not coming back for over a year.

Cassandra Craft's one of my favorite DC chicks. She's super-mellow, but still kind of sassy, and also she beat up Frankenstein and Dracula once.

Am planning to get my hands on a flatbed scanner...once I do...I'm committing my older comics to digital...even if it means killing them. Heck, I own them anyway. And one of the first I will put in is my collection of old 70's DC horror books with the Phantom Stranger. Great art, with some of the best in the genre at the time.

Geoff Johns is using him in Blackest Night !!

I love the Stranger and I love Geoff but Johns is gonna explain the Stranger's existence and link it to the Blackest Night... and that I won't stand for !!! I will still buy the Phantom Stranger #41 in January though !!

I'd bet you money I haven't got that if Johns tried to explain the Stranger's origins/existence/whatever, it'd be retconned in a heartbeat. I know he isn't a vital keystone character or anything, but that's his thing. He's the Stranger. He's just sort of there, being mysterious and helpful. He doesn't need reasons. He's too COOL to have them.
