Scans from Alison Bechdel's memoir Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic. The summary from the back cover: "Distant and exacting, Bruce Bechdel was an English teacher and director of the town funeral home, which Alison and her family referred to as the 'Fun Home.' It was not until college that Alison, who had recently come out as a lesbian, discovered that her father was gay. A few weeks after this revelation, he was dead, leaving a legacy of mystery for his daughter to resolve."

In Chapter 4, "In the Shadow if Young Girls in Flower," Alison discovers some incriminating photos.

I always thought this book would be too depressing for me to want to read, but those pages were so good.

"I recognised her with a surge of joy"

I can relate to that.

It is depressing, but there are joyous parts too. It's immensely affecting. Excelling read.

It isn't just a lesbian thing. That feeling, of being an alien who finally meets one of your own kind, is what I felt when I went to GenCon, the roleplaying game convention.

I wanted so badly for us all to live in our own world there and never go home. It was truly as if I'd found my real family. :/

That applied equally to me when I went to my first HLAA convention. That changed my world utterly. Then meeting other bisexuals did the same thing later on in a different part of my life.
