Batman RIP: DCU preview

Despite what people say about the Morrison redo of the Joker, but none the less there are three scenes that I like.

I can only wonder how he doesn't drool all over, or how can he speak, because he has no lips.

The same could be said for Red Skull, the newer version of Black Mask, Junior (I think)...

Red Skull had a mask, and even that mask had lips.
Ultimate Red Skull, on the hand hand, is dumb.

The Red Skull wears a mask most of the time, but prior to Ed Brubaker's run on the comic he had transferred his mind to a clone of Captain America, and accidentally infected himself with his red skull poison stuff.

That made his face and head actually look like a skull, and it stayed like that until the Winter Soldier aka Bucky shot him in the first story arc of Brubaker's run on Captain America.

After that he yhad his mind transfered to a Russian billionaire (who wore a mask) and then to a headless clone, which has both a Zola stomach face as well as a robotic regular head.

Well, his lip-status tends to depend on the artist drawing him, really.

The whole thing is that no-one ever actually seems to understand anything he says during RIP unless they're in a state of mental unrest themselves (Batman/Batman of ZEA), and/or are related to the supernatural (Dr. Hurt). Otherwise, in most of his RIP scenes his speech is just garbled blatherings, hence the green text/speech bubbles.

You'll notice that in these pages, particularly, you never see him actually say anything while his mouth is in the frame - in fact, it could even be that Batman is only inferring what the Joker is saying from his movement and body language. Sort of referential to the opening scene of "The Killing Joke", also, where the 'Joker' in that doesn't actually say anything but still manages to suggest mood and expression.

Both Hush and the Black Glove Gang think Batman deserves to be attacked and/or broken beyond repair.

Have to say, this does nothing for me, no emotion at all except, possibly, apathy. Batman getting chatty, and the Joker being silent, just doens't work for me.

I have to agree. I almost forget the Joker was in this story.

Yeah, I really dug what they did with Joker--it's not my interpetation of him, but the lovely thing about Morrison bringing it the "remaking himself" thing is that he can change around and be the version you like.
