Red, by Warren Ellis

Wow, somehow I completely missed the news that Red, a mini-series Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner did, is being made into a movie. This is excellent news, as I absolutely love the mini-series. It's definitely one of the strongest of Ellis's shorter works.

And the casting so far sounds good. I'm hoping the fact that it was able to draw so many high-caliber actors (Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, and John C. Reilly) means it had a really good script. I realize a lot of this is very old news but it's new to me.

So, for my first post in the new digs, here's 12 pages from the mini-series...

"In the explosive espionage-thriller RED, Warren Ellis and artist Cully Hamner create a stark tale of revenge, as retired CIA killer Paul Moses finds himself forced back into the game to gain revenge on the agency that trained him."

I only have issue with the killing of other ppl in the building. Somewhere, an intern just got shot while sorting mail...

I get, that he's an old school assassin that the new admin can't understand to leave well enough alone. Political assassinations for the sake of the greater good, I also get that...

But the way he said that along with the smile just feels disconcerting...the ppl working for the CIA live in a high risk job but the reason they just got killed and by whom is a little sad.

Yeah, that's me. Feeling sad for the offscreen civvies (more or less civvies in this case).

Anyway, Bruce Wilis can pull this character off, maybe channel a little Jackal in there. Hopefully they'd go for an M18+ rating so most of the meaning stays intact. Or they play up for more gory execution scenes and explosions. Honestly that's prolly the best that can be hoped for.

I figured there was at least a 50/50 chance he was lying about that too. Otherwise, yeah, motto.

Even if he was lying, he certainly killed a slew of CIA agents just doing their jobs on his way into the building.
