Well, I'll be checking it out. The ship design alone makes me feel good about it.

I love retro.

I think my very favorite part has to be the little rings coming off the thruster.

Sold. I've always wondered if pulp serials could make a comeback in this format. There are some YouTube videos produced today that, in comparison, probably had about the same budget as back then.

After all, this can't be any worse than the horrendously bad Flash Gordon series.

It's hard to get excited about 20 seconds of mediocre CGI. They don't have *anything* more to show? Sheesh.

The problem with Buck Rogers is that the 40s serials and the 80s revival are so different, it's almost like two completely different shows. I'd actually rather see a revival of the 80s version, but that's probably just because I was exposed to it first.

The 80s version still has the best intro ever:

(Sadly that's the intro to the far inferior second season, where Buck Rogers left Earth and became Star Trek-esque.)

I get that.

But it's a teaser that I could have created and rendered in less than a week on my desktop computer. And I'm not all that great at CGI.

Even as a teaser it's disappointing. Oh well.

True as that may be, if it was me, I'd rather put out a quick and simple teaser and spend the bulk of my time working on the actual show.

Bobby Quinn Rice is hot and played the gay Nephew in that Star Trek web series. Can't wait. Ship looks awesome.

Nice idea, but the devil of these things is not the hardware, which nearly always looks good (and this seems to be borrowing from the marvellous CGI Captain Scarlet) but what the PEOPLE are like, anywhere between poor proportions to uncanny valley, it's REALLY hard to pull off. The fact they're NOT showing any of the people worries me a little.

Really? Cool. Well, if the 1980's one had room for Buster Crabbe, it seems only fair to continue the chain...

The website says that Erin Gray will be Dr Huer, not Ma Rogers

They haven't cast anybody yet except the lead -- so they don't have any footage of people to show, but they want to start letting people know about it and generate enthusiasm NOW. Hence the rather boring teaser.

The main thing this tells us is that 1) there's going to be another Buck Rogers show, and 2) this time, they're going for a retro-future aesthetic.

Just occurred to me. I've been re-watching Farscape, for no reason other than Netflix put all the episodes up-- the setup for Farscape is really, really similar to the setup for Buck Rogers. Just replace "hibernation" with "wormhole". Even the Farscape module looks extremely similar to the 1980s series Ranger 3 probe.

I wonder if Farscape started out as a Buck Rogers remake in the first draft of the script.

Interesting comparison, but I wouldn't put money on it, since the primary story of "Space Chase" (Farscape's original name until they decided that they wanted, essentially, a googlewhack for web searches) was John Crichton getting home, which is never a possibility in Buck Rogers.

Au contraire. To quote Futurama:

"If I ever want to go back to the past, I'll just freeze myself again."

Fry wouldn't lie to me!
