So once, a third party policital hack met Captain America and leaked a rumor that Cap would run for President:

In the end, he decides that the Presidency is part of a system that requires compromise, and he prefers to portray an uncompromising ideal.

Fun fact: Stern got this story idea when the previous writing team proposed it to him (when he was editor), except he was actually going to win and serve a term as president. Stern said no, that was too big a change from the real world.
