He's American military. He knows how GUNS work. Computers are not guns, therefore, screw them.

This why I am loosing interest of the whole storyline. Gen Lane is becoming a cliche military-dick villain who think the ends justify the means for his paranoia: been there, done that. Can that be any more of a dead horse?

The man is starting a war with an army of supermen (and women) most of whom aren't as morrally strong as Kal. I say let him stay around to be killed once the war really gets going.

Is there any doubt he'll be killed? He can't really come back from this - even his fellow Earthlings aren't going to look too kindly when its found out that it was he who stopped the water supply in Metropolis (pop: millions) and then blamed it on the Kryptonians.

And really he's going to have to kill 100,000, from the oldest to the youngest baby, for this to work (which would make him and the entire US Army guilty of genocide).. Just one Kryptonian left alive with all his loved ones dead and revenge on his mind (and without the attachment to Earth Kal-El has) is all it will take to produce a new Armageddon.

So General Lane is DC's Norman Osborn?

And ugh the way he's been portrayed lately, it ruins that one comic where Lois is trapped in a car and is about to die until he comes and helps her out and Lois thinks he's a ghost (because he was suppose to be dead during that time).

But yeah y'know screw established continuity, like Ron and Lucy's relationship and their kid.

The only one Sam Lane comes out of this story is dead (again) or in jail. He's broken too many laws and become too much of a dick to do a heel face turn at the end of the story.

Ya know, with Lois' connections, she could easily get a bodyguard and use JLA tech to broadcast the thing all over the world effortlessly.

Damn I hate this story. I like the idea Cold War angle, but the way General Lane is provoking the situation just kills it. I'm hard pressed to see any general with half a brain trying to push for a war with that many supermen even if he knew he could win, because it'd cost half the damn planet!

Don't you dare bring logic into this! He has the MILITARY! With GUNS! That solves everything!

On a more portentious note, I think we've only seen the merest tip of the iceberg as to what his magical ally, Mirabai, has in store.

He may have lots in store but all Lois has to do is get Zatanna or the JSA on the phone and its problem solved. That being said I do sort of agree with General Lane's paranoia. Superman has the moral strength of gods. The rest of the Kryptonians see themselves as gods. That's the problem. Keeping Superman, Supergirl and Powergirl in line isn't to hard. There's the 5 GLs, Obsidian, Magog, the Marvel Family and the Flashes to name a few. But 100000 Kryptonians? That's going to take a really big chunk of kryptonite.

True. But we've also been told that Captain Atom is immune to magic and he was brainwashed and made a killer for Mirabai's sake. Another shoe is going to drop there with Cap back and with enough military cred (I hope) to sway some to his side.

And so the 2-D Snidely Whiplash-ation of Sam Lane continues. It seems obvious to me that even with Zod and Ursa on their side we're supposed to side with the Kryptonians in this upcoming "war".

And I don't think Sam Lane was this HUGE a dick previous to this story, no? He even showed up at the L/C wedding all abashed after saying he wasn't coming just for Lois's sake.

I don't think we are meant to take sides, I think we are meant to look on and groan at the waste created by xenophobes with too much power. I think its also a critique at humanity and how we deal with immigrints. They are OK when they are working for us but when they want something in return people get angry or fearful that they could get any amount of power. So yes, New Krypton is Mexico or Poland depending where you live.

I agree. Except in this case we're not dealing with countries the US Army could (easily) defeat. We're dealing with 100,000 men, women and children with the power of Superman and no allegiance to Earth (as he does). If even one of New Krypton's little kids (and I doubt there are many in such a small population) is killed on panel by Lane's minions, are we going to not understand if the mega-powered cut their way through thousands of Earth soldiers? Because I can totally see that happening.

This is the same company that had the Ambassador of Peace's (Wonder Woman) "sisters" behead on-panel a little boy and their father just for the crime of being male in Amazons Attack. And then brutually kill a female Air Force pilot because she was fighting for the "other" side.
I have a great fear this Superman story is becoming that unsubtle if it's not done well from here on - the characterization of Lane is not giving me hope.

We've already seen some signs of Zod's humanity in WONK (also by Robinson and Rucka) and that he believes (like Lane) he is a patriot. Lane by contrast has become more of a 2-D unlikable villain than the guy who just a year or so back almost took over the Earth with super-powered convicts. Unless they do something to change his characterization soon, it's going to be hard to root for Earth to win in this "war" (and you can't "protect the planet," as Lane says, if almost all the population is killed to do it).
