Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens/Brown paper packages tied up with string/These are a few of my favourite things
When the dog bites/When the bee (MY GOD) stings/When I'm feeling saaaaad
I simply remember my favorite things!
And then I don't feeeeeeel sooo baaaaaaaad!
Here's a collection of bits of comics that make me happy (Blue Beetle, War at Ellsmere, Superdictionary, and good ol' Birds of Prey).

(From the end of Blue Beetle: Boundaries, by Matthew Sturges and Rafael Albuquerque.)
This page is awesome because it demonstrates the Reyes family love and a sampling of Jaime's awesomeness as Blue Beetle. I used awesome in that sentence twice, but I don't care.

(That wonderful Beetle moment is from the Booster Gold #25 Blue Beetle co-feature, once again from writer Matthew Sturges.)
Oh, Milagro. ♥

(From The War at Ellsmere by Faith Erin Hicks, published by SLG.)
War at Ellsmere is a great little book. It's got a "mean girls athigh school private boarding school" premise, but it's really refreshingly done, with fun characters and dialogue, and there's a supernatural element to it as well. And the art here speaks for itself, expressive and fun. I highly recommend it.

(Part of a page from Birds of Prey #89, written by Gail Simone and art by Paulo Siqueira and Robin Riggs.)

(Four and half pages from Birds of Prey #90, written by Gail Simone and art by Paulo Siqueira, Adam Dekraker and Robin Riggs.)
You tell 'em, Babs! Batman, I love you, but you gotta give the Goddamn Oracle some more credit than that, bb. She's earned your trust by now. Also, way to blow Helena's secret ID to the Commish, Batman! Sheesh. (Ah well, the story ends well with Babs and Helena being proven right.) Birds of Prey: Perfect Pitch is always worth re-reading.

(From Hark! A Vagrant by the always awesome Kate Beaton.)
I love this. Also, I'm told there's a movie in the works about Queen Victoria in her younger days and the romance between her and Albert. Should be interesting.

(From the holy cracktionary, the DC Super Dictionary.)
Sure, guys, that's why you're so friendly.
And finally, a sight for sore eyes, a bit more from Birds of Prey #108, by Gail Simone and Nicola Scott, available in trade as Birds of Prey: Dead of Winter--which also features some Secret Six. Huntress is saying "Now, me, I'd say that's a little premature, don't you think?"

Hell yes. Love that bit so much.

Date: 2009-12-12 06:23 am (UTC)But don't forget the story earlier in the series where Babs got the Brainiac virus, and Batman went all out to make sure she had the best possible chance at surgery: assembling a team of all useful/appropriate superheroes, the very best medical equipment and civilian doctors, etc. She also had him doing the requisite "batstalking-because-he-cares" bit, where he's lurking in the shadows while Dr. Mid-Nite is around, and sneaking in to give Babs a kiss on the head while she was sleeping before the surgery. It was very sweet and in-character, IMO.
(Oh god Batman, stop channelling Edward Cullen!)

War at Ellsmere scans, I feel that way every time someone tells me I need new shoes.

Haha, for some reason I find the sales people in shoe stores to almost always be condescending.
