A happier post than yesterday, 'cause y'all deserve it.

My favorite four panels in all of JLA/Avengers, from issue number four.

I realize they couldn't continue this, because epic melee combat and separation of the two universes and all, but seriously, Shulkie and Wondy miniseries, y/y? The two universes would collapse from the concentrated awesome, but it'd be worth it.

Ohhh, that's Hippolyta in the third panel, threw me off for a second. Particularly since I thought she was calling Jen daughter.

Uhm, that's Surtur. You're gonna need a bigger boat, ladies.

Please. Wonder Woman flosses her teeth with Surtur. She-Hulk and Hippolyta are already superfluous.

Ok, obviously someone's smokin, because you need Skyfather Odin to be able to tie Surtur in a fight, and Thor + Loki to beat him.

Diana wouldn't even come close to matching matching the power of Surtur. Her pantheon's Zeus at full strength might.

The Wikipedia description specifies that Marvel Surtur mostly uses concussive force, which Diana is mostly resistant to. It's not exactly a strict hierarchy of powers.

Not on that level. It's like saying your safe behind bullet proof glass from a nuke because it's good against concussive force.

Well, yes, but Diana has fought god-level stuff before? She's hardly way out of her league here. And she's clearly expecting to not survive the fight in the second panel.

This is where I would move the discussion to a rumbles or -vs.- forum, but I can't stress enough that it takes the full might of a Skyfather just to match Surtur. Diana just doesn't bring enough raw power to the table, shield of Aegis or no shield of Aegis.

Honestly, I think it's a different game - the Skyfathers of the Norse and Greek pantheons aren't even a decent power-match, Thor - Zeus have more equivalent powers. (Zeus's powers are mistaken for Thor's in a recent issue of Incredible Herc.) Thor is stronger than Odin. A power-set angled more to defense is a different thing entirely than what the Aesir bring to the fight. In a fight where Diana is trying to block him, rather than kill him, she could probably hold the way for some time.

Still, given that Diana is divinely powered, and still depicted as expecting to die, and feeling hope when backed by Shulkie and Hippolyta, it seems quite reasonable.

In the MU Odin is leagues stronger and more powerful then Thor. He's been known to destroy galaxies simply as a side-effect of some of his fights.

Surtur is his equal. During Simonson's run Surtur destroyed a galaxy simply so he could use it to help make a sword. He took a blow with the power of a million suns and didn't flinch.

I thought I'd seen somewhere in Marvel that Thor was the most physically powerful of the Aesir due to his mother being the Earth?

Thor's the strongest of the normal Aesir, Odin is special since he has the powers of his brothers Vili and Ve who were killed by Surtur (whihc became known as the Odinpower). He's also descended from Tiwaz and Bor so he was already beyond most Asgardians even before that.

Using mythology you'd be right.. Except neither Marvel or DC stay true to mythology.

In comics they are. See Thor fighting Zeus for days during the battle of Troy. Or Thor beating Ares so bad he ran away in fear.

There was also the time that the Asgardians and Olympians went to war with each other and were totally equal.

Because Diana's never fought or killed gods before, and it's not like a Hulk has no upper limit, or anything... wait, what?

Love the way Wondy's voice trails off, because she knows not only that she's about to die but that she's not about to run. And then Shulkie and Momzer show up, and it's all better.

And, yeah, a mini-series would be epic and a half. But only if Gail Simone could write it. Or Ed Brubaker. Or both of 'em. And Dodson or Cho on the art. 'Cause, hey.

If it were Diana in the series, WW would talk normally. Hippolyta tends to be a bit... old fashioned.

I was just thinking, all Wonder Woman needed was a staff and to scream YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

Infact I thought she had actually said that till I reread...

I would love to write a Shulkie/Wondy crossover, just the two of them. And it would be very easy to work into either book, they're both surreal enough. Too bad the companies are run by [note: here I actually concede all chance of working for DC or Marvel] flaming psychos who disparage each other whilst imitating each other. Really, Cheese, Didlo, I'm sure Jimmy would just have a threesome with the two of you & you could work this out.

This was one of the best crossovers ever,. The writing was dead on KB understood each team and universe, what made them, how they worked and what would drive each team crazy about the other. The whole thing was "saved" by the Grandmaster,so more to come shouldn't be a problem. GP was also the perfect artist, who rose to the occasion as always. :)
