Continuing off of my previous Shield post...

Searching for soldiers who have gone mysteriously missing in the fictional country Bialya (not Afghanistan; there seemed to be some confusion over that in my previous entry), the Shield's trail leads him to an abandoned H.I.V.E. base under the control of Gorilla Grodd.

The combined might of Grodd and Magog lay into him.

Everyone becomes freed of the mind control. But that means you suddenly have a whole bunch of insurgents and American soldiers waking up from possession, disoriented and armed, in the same room. Naturally, the two sides start shooting at each other. The Shield's able to order the American troops to stand down, being part of the chain of command, but the insurgents are another story. (This next page is by a different penciller, Eduardo Pansica, by the by.)

The Shield thanks the boy Shuja for his help, but Shuja tells him he didn't do it for him and makes it clear in no uncertain terms that he still hates his guts.

Date: 2009-12-25 09:54 am (UTC)*Ironic, because a guy wearing the flag and named Capt. America is the last person you'd expect that to be the case for.

Date: 2009-12-25 09:01 am (UTC)Theoretically, he could be an update of Fireball, but aside from the fire-based powers nothing lines up - not origin, civilian ID, non-civilian ID...or even quite how the powers work.
The other Red Circle book right now is The Web, which has the Hangman as a backup - which would have been a better title feature, frankly.

A Hangman front feature might be too similar to DC's Spectre, I think.

But speaking of Spectre, I totally want him to meet Mr Justice when they bring him in...
Hmm...DC's got a lot of characters with the same general theme... A team book with El Diablo, Crimson Avenger, Hangman, Spectre, and Mr Justice.... That'd be interesting... Eclipso could be an auxiliary member.

Date: 2009-12-25 08:33 am (UTC)Or, still more interesting - here's a thought. What if Shuja winds up becoming a sort of involuntary supporting cast member? I mean, here his purpose is to make a point, but what if he encounters the Shield again multiple times under different circumstances? He doesn't WANT to hang out with the Shield; he wishes he'd just go away and leave him alone, but fate keeps bringing them together, sometimes on one side of the conflict, sometimes on another. Would he become a sort of Jimmy Olsen on the other side, or a nascent arch-villain, or both, depending on the circumstances?
