Spider-Man - The Clone Saga #4

Just to refresh everyone's memories: This mini is a non-canon "retelling" of the Clone Saga storyline the way it was originally intended before it became the infamous bloated mess that it eventually became.

So Kaine's working with Doctor Octopus to perfect a formula that prevents clone degeneration. Doc Ock will only give it in exchange for the Jackal's journals, and the plan turns sour when Kaine refuses.



Oh no! Is Doctor Octopus going to be killed (as he was in the original Clone Saga)?



Kaine tells Ben that he's worried about degenerating too, and when Spider-Ben attempts to web him up, he uses Ock as a shield, covering Ock's face in webbing. Kaine tells Ben that Ock will suffocate if he doesn't save him, and gives him the ultimatum of helping Ock or catching him.

Also, please don't add "Green Goblin" to the tags so people who haven't read the issue won't be spoiled.

So... this is meant to convey that bringing back Norman was the plan all along?

Granted this is SOOOO much better than the "Did I mention I have a healing factor?" canon explanation. But still. WHY?

They're going with, "It was Harry." plan aren't they?

It's possible. The last issue had him going "Gotcha!" at the end which is something Harry was fond of saying, and he certainly has the motivation for bringing back his father. But it could be a red herring. We'll see.

Although I do question the necessity of this series, I cannot deny that it makes hella more sense now. I am re-editing my memory banks of the 90s to sync up.

Is it me, or does it seem as though Marvel of late is out to drum up more interest in stories they were going to tell but didn't and don't matter, as opposed to the ones they are telling that do?
