Preview for two X-titles at Newsarama here, including New Mutant #9 (Which we've seen unlettered pages for before). (The other preview is Nation X, and it's PAD penned, so is a no-no here)

Just in case though - Spoilers under the cut

Doug and Warlock are being checked out post Necrosha and it would appear that Doug has managed to recover completely from being A) dead and B) a Necroshan zombie thing.

Doug is fine, but Warlock is operating at low power and will take a long time to regenerate since he appears to have switched to a vegan diet... or the T-O equivalent thereof.

Danger is fascinated by Warlock, but as Doug quickly notices....



Doug appears to have aged whilst he was dead since he was only about 16 then and seems older here. He's a cute li'l dickens just the same though.

Well what about the rest of the x-men ? what are they supposed to be mid-twenties by now ?? Oh' Marvel time, why do some characters age but never Franklin..

The original X-Men should be in their 30's IMHO, the New Mutants in their early to mid 20's (unless they were dead for much of that time), since they had a wide age range (Sam was 18 or 19 whilst Bobby was only 14)

And Franklin just had a birthday, which I'm sure will have just as much of an impact on his age as OYL did on all the DCU kid heroes, eg, none whatsoever.

It used to be that everyone was all LANGUAGE POWERS PFFT WHAT GOOD ARE THOSE, but now, in the information age, Doug's language powers basically give him God Mode abilities over everyone else, and that smug smirk on his face says that he knows it.

Will they every upgrade Warlock's appearance? I'm not saying that he looks bad, but he is influence by 80s artwork right? What's keeping the creators from giving him a today's "edgy" look

It may be a function of his operating on extremely low power, as they say on these pages - when he's stronger he "polishes" his appearance? I can't find it now, but I'm thinking particularly of that endless chase between Warlock and the Impossible Man that was posted here awhile ago.

Belasco made a soulless demon with her appearance and her memories, and then said demon stole the soul sword.

Is it just me, or does New Mutants seem to be... pandering to the base too much? Of course, the entire comic is based on appealing the old fans who still remember the New Mutants cast from twenty-five years ago, but you've still got to have some kind of hook or concept to get new readers in, and it seems this book is kinda lacking on that front. Which is a rather big thing to lack, since the original series ended twenty-five years ago.

Take Doug Ramsey, for example. There's basically three camps concerning him; the small fanbase that loves him, the small fanbase that hates him, and the large amount of comic book readers who have no idea who the hell Doug Ramsey is, or why they should care about him coming back. Same with Legion and the Hellions - some people will go "Sweet!" but the other eighty-five percent will go, "who?"

If Illyana is some kind of clone, that wouldn't make her Illyana 2.0. Beast growing fur would make him Beast 2.0, Beast turning into a cat would be Beast 3.0, but McKoy has never been referred to as "Beast 2.0" because he's a different person, not an upgraded version.

Warlock needs to stop asking comic book writers for proper usage of 'net speak.

Probably because she's a depowered mutant, her Valkyrie powers are independent of those.
