[personal profile] sindra posting in [community profile] scans_daily

Hoping I got this right the first time. First time posting a new entry to DW.

Leaving off since the last issue, Eddie has kinda gone a tad mental after seeing his friend kidnapped and relapse back into a junkie because of the Quintas gang's boss. He goes to town on the boss's flunkies whilst Frank waits outside and lets Eddie do the damage. Eventually the boss-man engages Frank, but Frank's new armor provided by his buddy isn't up to snuff and he gets stabbed. Eddie sees the boss man and takes the fight to him.

D'aww.....a tender moment for two anger-management poster children.

I'm not the only one starting to kinda like this series, am I? I feel dirty, but not guilty really.

Why does the crime boss look like Logan after living in a cave for a few months and then shaving in the dark without a mirror?

Same here. If only because Frank running out of bullets would be silly even with his supplier being a bit of an idiot (which came up in the story). Not to mention if Frank knew he didn't have bullets why get into sniping position anyway? XP

Frank being out of ammo?

That's sort of like saying Wolverine finally got sick of killing things or Spider Man decided to quit cracking jokes and quips.

As much as I hate 90 percent of NuSpidey, Eddie as Anti-Venom SHOULDN'T work, but it DOES (unlike Gargan as Venom, which is basically just Black Carnage, and since Carnage sucks ...).

I'd say 98%. Anti-Venom's fun and I'm kinda torn on if I think Screwball is silly or just silly enough. XP

I know too much about how the Internet actually works to find Screwball tolerable even from a so-bad-it's-good perspective. It's pretty much a shit concept from start to finish.

Actually the notion of a blogger dumb and hateful and desperate for attention enough to DO that stuff is frighteningly believable.

Only to the point where anyone with half a brain isn't able to follow her electronic paper trail and arrest her in less than half an hour. Especially in the Patriot Act Superhuman Registration Act world of modern Marvel, all you'd need would be a PHONE:

"Yeah, hi, Web host providers for 'Screwball'? This is a order from HAMMER Director Osborn to divulge the identity and billing information of your client instantly. Non-compliance will be met with a sentence in federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison. Oh, and even if we aren't able to arrest her, here's a further order barring you from broadcasting any of her streaming videos."

What about those expensive remailer whatevers that people use for illegal porn? Servers outside the countries the US and SHIELD have legal access?

The fact that the writers themselves haven't even addressed these simple possibilities tells me that they aren't even aware that they exist, which means that I'm meant to buy into the "hipness" of a gimmicky Web-based character created by middle-aged writers who understand the Web even less than Stan Lee understood actual engineering ("Transistors can do ANYTHING!"). As with Civil War itself, if the whole selling point of your character involves making them "more realistic," then either BE "more realistic" or don't waste my fucking time.

With that hypothetical you assume Osborne finds her annoying. Lord knows he might let her do so just so that she annoys Spider-man.

Kinda like how Luthor really loved hearing Livewire's arguments on her radio show, not quite the same I know but I honestly don't think she'd be a big enough problem for Norman to give a damn about.

Point being, even if Osborn himself doesn't take the bait, pretty much ANYONE could threaten Screwball's Web host providers - including the RIAA, if she dared to include non-authorized MUSIC in her streaming videos - and at the very least, get them to provide all her billing details.

For fuck's sake, Peter Parker himself could probably find out who she is by calling them and then applying simple deductive reasoning for the rest, like you used to be able to do in countless other cases fore OMD/BND took away his brain.

Except they have more important thing to worry about. She's annoying sure, but not worth the effort.

You're also a bit bias.

Eddie actually has a personality and a quirky sense of humor, even if his morality and ethics are pretty tangled. All of Venom's jokes came from him. Carnage was just a psycho mess of blood, and Gargan's major personality traits seem to be 1) being stupid, 2) destruction, 3) being just cunning enough to be sneaky occasionally. You'd never believe this man was once a private detective, or that he once had the motivation of 'stuck in costume'. Of course, now he is stuck in another costume ha ha.

The one thing I haven't figured out is if his powers ("to clean") actually work or are only temporary, or worse are like the rebound, in that they cure but then make it worse.

The girl has me all confused.

Fair enough, as drug addiction is at least partially a psychological addiction.

But he tried to cure Spidey...and he got better, right?

Eddie's sad face in those panels reminds me of Wolfgang Grimmer from Monster.

Wow, Anti-Venom is HUGE. I mean, I know Eddie's a big guy, but with his symbiote, he's damn near a giant, a thing which doubtless contributes quite a bit to his effectiveness in combat. If I were a crook and saw this huge, fanged, grinning... CREATURE with a slime-dripping tongue coming at me, I would drop my gun and run like hell. Let's face it, in reality, just about any incarnation of Venom would be really, REALLY scary.
