Clever and slick. What does everyone think of the Doug so far? Too vulcan? He seems to be angst-free so far.

BTW, Rahne will just shit when she finds out.

I hope he retains at least a little of his "ordinary person" personality, though it would appear not.

Additional interesting notion, most people can look at a painting and wonder what the artist meant when they painted it. Would Doug be able to KNOW, with 100% accuracy what they meant?

Wouldn't surprise me at all, it's all too easy to assign to High Artistry that which is adequately explained by a a need to put food on the table.

There's a nice scene in The Sandman where Morpheus meets Shakespeare to collect his second play (The Tempest), where Shakespeare pretty much explains that he wrote THIS scene because the actor kicked up a fuss about not having enough lines, and THAT scene because he wanted to actor to feel better, and assigns to one of the most beloved and revered plays ever written an almost pedestrian justification.

In one of the Necrosha specials, the one that explains how Doug was brought back, he pretty much read the "language" of a building and new the best entrance into Utopia. If they can stretch this language reading ability of his this much, I'm sure reading paintings wouldn't be easy for him.

Given the fact that even pre-mortem, Doug was in relationships with Kitty, Betsy and Rahne (Never mind those who had a crush on him), I think it's clear he's always been able to speak the language of luuuuurve.. Now he's come back older and better looking, he and Cassandra might use their hands with each other, but I don't think they'd be fists...

I started writing a fanfic years back, where Psylocke, Captain Britain and Excalibur era Douglock meet properly for the first time, and each realises that none of them are in their original bodies, and have each experienced some sort of death...

I think that a welcome welcome back from Betsy could temporaily knock-Zen-New!Doug into Flustered!-goofball Doug.

I'd write it that way. That's why I've always considered them a "Down the road" OTP.

I've seen this take on Doug's power in way too many fanfics, and the writers inevitably forget that one of the things that made Doug stand out on the NM team was that his power was exceedingly useful given certain situations, but not that powerful. Tweaking Doug's powers too much loses a lot of what made him endearing, IMO, and I was rather hoping he'd get semi-powered down after the TO virus was overwritten. I'm a little wary, but I don't find the path Wells has taken to get here illogical and he's still got copious goodwill with me for his Doug/Warlock interactions so far, so let's see where this goes.

I also confess to being a little worried about how "quirky" this will make Doug when his major trait up until now was his lack of quirks in his behaviour, but as you say, we'll see how it plays out.

I've never even heard of the New Mutants until very recently, but Cypher's powers do sound like they'd make for some interesting stories. :)

I thought it was established that she was brought back by Belasco, not Illyana, but a close copy, but she was missing her soul. I imagine that one of the New X-men could have told them that if they'd asked instead of threatening to beat them up.

I totally called this. He's like a mutant version of a type of literary criticism, where *everything* is text, something to be read. In another line of thinking, if you study a person long enough, or a mechanism or sequence of events or activity long enough, you can find the pattern, and thus "translate" and predict the next action, or at least profile it.
