Super-Fashion
Jan. 7th, 2010 03:12 amSomething from way back in the day--reader-submitted fashions!
Most of the reader-submitted fashions were kind of ugly, but I think the basic idea was pretty cool. I'm a little sad that this kind of feature just fell by the wayside. I guess it was inevitable, considering the way that comics evolved over the years, but still. Maybe they should have held a reader-design contest for the Star Sapphires.

I note that a lot of these designs have pants or shorts. I guess readers wanted Supergirl to wear pants even way back in the day. XD
My favorite off of this page is Nicole Schneider's.
The comment about Janet Hallinan's is kind of strange, though. Tell me, fellas--would you be keen on a lady who showed up on her first date wearing that kind of outfit?

I like the one on the far right of this picture.
The super-business-suit looks weird. I wonder who thought of that one?

Yeah, it's kind of weird that they didn't bother drawing Supergirl actually wearing these costumes. Invisible mannequins, I guess.

The one from Scott Loos in Arizona is my favorite of any of these. I think it's incredibly stylish. I especially like the little scarf thing.

But Tony Gene Morris from NC had a cool idea, too. Like Supergirl, I dig the belt.
(I don't know what issue or what year this came from. I just saved them from the original scans_daily many moons ago.)

Date: 2010-01-07 09:36 am (UTC)The only reasonable theory I can suggest is that, at the time, the people who submitted fashions were probably children, and children generally don't have a great sense of style. XD
Except maybe that Scott Loos fellow. I'd love to see Supergirl running around in that costume.

Date: 2010-01-07 11:12 am (UTC)Of all people, it was /b/ that came up with the absolutely heartwarming idea that Superman receives drawings of himself from kids all over the world, and he puts them all up on the world's largest refrigerator in the Fortress of Solitude. The punchline is that he doesn't even NEED the refrigerator, but that he made it himself, purely for the purpose of having a proper place to put all those pictures.

And yeah that was a sweet idea, why does Supes need a frig on the Fortress? He doesn't but I bet that's something he would do, I mean Starman made stick figure drawings for him in a wall and he put it up in his fortress so why not random drawings from kids all over the world.
My favorite one of the drawings has to be the one with Delirium. She made him a colorful rainbow drawing of herself with a cape and refers to Superman as "Clark Capeman" then she goes babbling about how she wanted him to have more colors and how she wants him to be her big brother.

Date: 2010-12-12 07:35 pm (UTC)I like Donna Knight's, Dennis Montgomery's and Ellen Robertson's ideas. Tony Gene Morris' would be good as well, except for those hideous red leggings. Skirts and loose-legged pants aren't really ideal for crimefighting and a billowy scarf on a superhero is basically a big red target saying "choke here" (sorry, Scott Loos, but it's true). Nicole Schneider's design would be good, if it had leggings rather than pants tucked into the boots. That's bound to get uncomfortable or come loose at the worst possible moment.
