Three scans from Invincible Iron Man #22.

Now that we know that Matt Fraction is taking over Thor in the summer, seeing him write some of the Thor supporting characters here in IIM is interesting.  The whole crew is camped out in Mrs. Sooner's place (I'd love to know what she thinks of Donald Blake now, given the sorts of people he's tracked into the place), and Ghost makes his way through the hotel to try and kill Stark:

Maria bursts in and drives Ghost off (not his best showing), and since all the superheroes have headed off to do other stuff for the moment, they're in a bit of a pickle.  They try to take Tony's body into the basement:

He's a fan of the show too, apparently.

Ghost doesn't show up again, but Steve does, now accompanied by Dr. Strange, here to work the hoodoo on the still comatose Tony.  Tony's still hiding out in his own mind, uncertain of what's going on:

He shouldn't be but considering how far behind the rest of the universe Invincible Iron Man has been so far I'm not exactly surprised.

Did he even know about Strange not being Sorcerer Supreme anymore before he went total vegetable? I don't think he's crossed paths with anyone who would have told him.

When you wear a certain set of clothes for as long as Strange did, I can see it taking some time to stop it from being his mental picture of himself.

He's always been Sorcerer Supreme. He's just pretending he's not, to lure his enemies into false confidence....

(At least I think that was what was in MightyGodKing's "Why I should Write Doctor Strange" essays)

The cape he is shown wearing here is not the Cape of Levitation that Doctor Voodoo now wears. Just as it was back in the early days before the Ancient One passed the Sorcerer Supreme mantle onto him. It could be a magical cape, who knows how many artifacts are stored within his Sanctum? But it is not the levitation cape.

He isn't

The coloring on that last pannel is a little off, like the two faces and the candlestick, his bottom lip and the area under his lip can either look like his mouth is closed or slightly agap with him sticking his tongue between his lips.

And maybe Steve's astral form just takes this form, you know 'self image' type thing, it may just be how he sees himself in his head, that's not the actual eye of agamoto, assuming he doesn't show up that way in person.

Yeah, I thought the point was that there's nothing IN Tony's mind anymore, and deliberatley so.

Yes nothing, except for a random wood floor in a random dilapidated building that he can hide under...they should have stuck with the desert and the not even thinly veiled symbolism.

Nothing was in Tony's mind up until last issue, when they used the hard drive of his brain, Thor's lightning and Cap's shield to 'reboot' him from a backup.

But he hasn't woken up like he was supposed to, even though his brain appears to be operating normally (note that he's not on a respirator, as his brain remembers how to do that again).

Personal theory? The extremis technology is fighting back and doesn't want Tony taking control again...or maybe expelling the Extremis was part of Tony's goal.

I know people like that. They claim constantly that they DON'T mean to sound that way, but somehow their natural speaking voice sounds venomous. I suppose its possible.

Because the last time he decided to save the world from itself worked out so gosh darn spiffy, didn't it?

I think his subconscious had a conversation with him on this in the form of his dad bitching a him about not accepting help. Damn Tony's a control freak.

You know, Quincy was never one of the comics I've have expected to see referenced in Iron Man.

Though if Tony was released into the custody of his "doctor", who was also had right of attorney, why do they say he's a fugitive when HAMMER knows that he's almost utterly brain dead?

Did Osborn change his mind about being scared off pulling the plug on him due to lawyers or something?

I should point out that this is _not_ the worst showing a Ghost has made. Even if he'd gotten beat up by an old woman of a certain weight.

That's Mrs. Sooner's basement? It's gorgeous. Lots of floorspace, high ceilings, it's not cluttered with old junk, and it's got floor-to-ceiling windows.

It's not her basement. It's the basement of the town's middle school, which they clarify in the dialog when Dr. Strange arrives.

On one hand, redemption is for everyone and he's trying to atone.

On the other hand, the fact that he doesn't apologize and admits that he's wrong and how Marvel's making it seem like they're sweeping the Civil War under the rug makes me wish Tony goes through a little more hell.

Define 'everyone'. Cap certainly does. He and Thor have had it out two or three times, now...so it's not like they haven't had time to work out their differences. The first time they openly fought. The second time they angrily disagreed. By this time, Iron Man's done some penance and time has passed.

This isn't the first time they've made their peace and moved on from past mistakes. See Operation: Galactic Storm, Skrull-Kree War, etc. etc.
