Batgirl #06 - Bat!Family Dynamics

Four more pages from Batgirl #6. With the one preview page posted, that makes 5 of a 23-page story we've had so far. 2 and a third pages still up for grabs, fellow posters!

Anyhoo. Bat!Dick has answered Comissioner Gordon and Gage's batsignal, and they're discussing the kidnapping of Francisco Stefano, i.e., that cute guy Steph knows from school.

Steph reminds me of Spike in an early episode of "Angel: The Series" here. (That's a good thing, IMO. haters gotta hate...)




Bat!Daddy has to step in and separate the two kids, leaving them to work out their differences on their own.



Meanwhile, Babs and Dick act like the successfully broken-up surrogate parents they are. Functional as a team, but bittersweetly.



There's at least two more pages in this sequence I wish I could've posted. I skipped the big plot reveal because, well, it's kinda a letdown IMO. Anyone else wants it, have at!

Also, the more Steph and Damian interact the more adorable they become together. "Have at thee wench!"

It's funny, I used to hate Damian and thought he was a terrible character, but ever since he became Robin, he has been hilarious. I'm loving it so far.

I think it's a cosmic prerequisite, since Dick and Barb: Robins have to crush on Batgirls, at least a little.

Dick crushed on Barbara.

Tim crushed on Cass (a little).

Damien now must crush on Steph.

But if Cass were still Batgirl, it would be even more obvious.

Yeah, I'd have read this by now... SOLD OUT. I had to ask to make sure, and they did come in and sold out the same day.

Yay, Babs/Dick. EW, I see no similarities here! Damian should really crush on Cass instead, but maybe he's fascinated because Steph is a scintillating beam of sunlight that he's never seen in his world. In any case -- no hug, only punch!

I don't see Dick as a tough love kind of guy, or silent treatment type, or the first one to break off witty repartee and go frosty.

Cool -- "your boyfriend's father is wealthy". At least Damian knows that Steph and Tim are still together. But I thought that everyone thinks Bruce is dead except for Tim? Oh, well. Move it along, kid.

I love Babs/Dick. And the flirty "pretty please?" with the smile from Dick was awesome. ~sighs of happiness!~

My first reaction to this issue was "waaaaaay too much Batman."

But then at the end, it turns out they're going to have to rescue him!

I don't care if it is just Dick and that would never be allowed to happen with Bruce, it still makes me happy, assuming it actually happens.

Just so long as the Francisco kid survives the kidnapping (you never can tell with the Bat-world), I'll be onboard with this. I, too, LOLled at "have at thee, wench!" from Damian. Heehee!

As of the end of the issue, Francisco and Dad were both safely out of the way of the main action. Dad's got a guilty secret and Frankie's royally pissed with him, but they're in no immediate danger.

I loved the moment later, when Steph is try to question Jordanna, she's all trying to look classic Batman-with-cape-over-lower-face-and-glare, but she also crouched up on Jordanna's couch. It's so cute.

The "bad cop-worse cop" routine was one of the scenes I wished I'd been able to post. :D

This is a nice "behind the scenes" look on the Batclan. I just wish all of them would get into the act. It would be nice to see the likes of Batwoman and Huntress interacting with the others. Heck, make it Gotham's heroes, and put the Question in as well.

The interplay between these two works surprisingly well. Damian keeps being a little snot, and Steph keeps NOT being offended, which would normally act as an icebreaker, except that Damian's... well, Damian. So no real progress is made, but that's fine, 'cause the place they're in now amuses me.
Also - am I going to be the ONLY one to comment on the fact that Dick has little batwings on his cell phone?

I still don't like Damian, but this series is FUN. (Probably because he isn't taken all that seriously here.) The only way it could be better would be with Cass in it as well. (I need my Cass/Steph fix, damn it!)

And while I still much prefer Dick/Kory, I agree about the bittersweetness of the Dick/Babs interaction.

What happened to Bab's hair? I'm not sure if I like it or not, it makes her look like she's thirty (what's her estimated age in actuality?)
This is the first time that Damien hasn't caused me to cringe.
