The Hero Initiative is a charity whose ongoing mission is, in their own words;

The Hero Initiative creates a financial safety net for comic creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work. Since inception, the Hero Initiative has been fortunate enough to benefit over 40 creators and their families with over $400,000 worth of much-needed aid, fueled by your contributions! It's a chance for all of us to give back something to the people who have given us so much enjoyment.

Marvel recently donated 100 blank-covered copies of Wolverine: Weapon X #1 to the Initiative, and they got some of the best and brightest artists to donate their efforts to produce unique covers which could then be auctioned off.

Some of the covers are in their current auction here and a complete gallery of the covers can be seen here.

And for legality here are a few of the covers themselves.

Art Adams throwing Ghost Rider into the mix....

Fred Hembeck is ALWAYS fun! :)

This one, by legendary artist Ed Hannigan is my favourite, with a brilliant homage cover... Can you spot the special guest stars?

God, some of those are amazing.

I wish I had a couple hundred to spare (and an eBay account), so I could bid on some of them. ;_;

The Terry Moore and the first Darwyn Cooke (with Wolvie cutting his way out of the cover) are my favourites.

What I love about Moore's cover is that beautiful serious front cover...

And the goofy 'grr!' Toonwolvie on the back cover.

(What I particularly love about Cooke's, FTR, is the way he draws the claws.)
