This is a panel from Amazing Spider-Man #365, from a backup story written by Stan Lee and Tom DeFalco and illustrated by John Romita Sr. I'll post some of the context later, but for now, I thought I'd post this one solitary panel which is particularly tragic in light of current affairs.

No, you wouldn't... but Peter would. : (

I think it should be clear from these pages that Mary Jane didn't convince Peter to make the deal, but rather it was the other way around. The couch also had the good sense to stay out of the Civil War event.

And the couch swallowed the keys and spare change of Skrulls, thereby delaying them for crucial seconds when they attempted to enter their vehicles, and depriving them of energizing caffeine when they went to access the vending machine and found their quarters gone.

The Spanish Inquisition rejected this very couch in favour of the comfy chair because the couch was too inhumanly comfy, and anyway the couch refused to have anything to do with their tyrannical regime.

Whenever Squirrel Girl is in the neighbourhood, she and the couch regard each other for a long moment, and Squirrel Girl gives a single solemn nod acknowledging their deep bond of mutual respect.
