Batwoman's new relationship?

The issue flips between Bruce!Batman working on a case in the past and Kate working on one in the present. The present day case involves is a crazy named the "Cutter" who is kidnapping college co-eds and hacking off pieces of their body. Kate finds one of the girls being held and battles the Cutter. Which leads to these two pages.

They contrast these pages with Bruce!Batman in a similar meeting with Gordon so clearly Maggie is being positioned as potentially Kate's Jim Gordon. I like the idea of Kate having her own contact in the police department. It will be interesting to see if it is indeed Maggie and if they'll have any follow up on the flirting between them from a few issues back. That would add an interesting twist to the relationship.

This issue has Bruce in it? Totally picking it up.

There's a nice little Bruce/Kate double spread picture too.

Gorgeous, as usual.

If Kate and Maggie wind up together, my squee-ing may deafen several neighborhood pets.

They did a good job picking someone to substitute on art duties.

This looks really good. I can't wait to pick it up. I hope Kate stays well handled in years to come at DC.

I will be so intensely pleased and impressed if Kate and Maggie do not so much as smile at each other ever again. Not just because of Toby, which I'm still mad about, thanks, but because oh my God two lesbians who are simply friends, that does not even happen in fiction, and it would blow my tiny representationally-starved dyke mind.

Compromise? Kate and Maggie can date, Captain Sawyer and Batwoman can be professional partners? ;)

Yes, I know, even worse idea and laden with too many tropes to list. Commence with the beating.

It would be great if they were just friends. But I thought girls in comics don't have friends? Honestly, I think the best twist would be to have Kate tell her Maggie who she was and avoid the whole "secret identity" part of the Gordon/Bruce!Batman relationship.

You know, this. Or alternately I'd like to see her in a long-term relationship. Neither will likely happen but at any rate I have still enjoyed the way Kate is written probably more than any other female character in the DCU, so I can't complain too much.

It's almost as if this is the book filling in the void left behind by Gotham City Central.

I don't think there will ever be much room for Dick in Kate's book.

So you think that Batwoman's book will remain Dick-less for the foreseeable future?

In fact, I would be surprised to see Kate have much to do with Dick in any title.
