Now that Doug Ramsey is back in the land of the living, I'm pleased to see my other blond role model is back too! :)

Wave hello to the nice people Wembley!

Yup, Archia Comics are launching the return of the place where you can ALWAYS dance your cares away...

STARTING IN APRIL, GOBO, MOKEY, RED, WEMBLEY AND BOOBER STAR IN ALL-NEW ADVENTURES, HIGHLIGHTED BY THE ‘MOUSE GUARD’/ ‘FRAGGLE ROCK’ FREE COMIC BOOK DAY FLIP BOOK IN MAY!

Hollywood, CA (January 29, 2010) – The Jim Henson Company and Archaia announced today that their first Fraggle Rock comic book miniseries makes its anxiously awaited debut in comic book shops this April. Issue #1 (of 3) will be available for pre-order in the February issue of Previews, and its debut will be followed by the release of Archaia’s Free Comic Book Day flip book, featuring Fraggle Rock and Mouse Guard, available for free on May 1, 2010.

And Katie Cook even has a story in the first issue.

And to celebrate a few of my favourite tunes from the show, which I won't even TRY embedding this time

Let Me Be Your Song - Jim Henson at his most mystically melodic

Dixie Wailin' - If I didn't think it would outrage my family, I'd want this played at my funeral... on the other hand, that might be the BEST time to outrage them! :)

I wish I could find a youtube of Wembley's brilliant, and accurate, little song about subjective prepositions, which runs to...

"I'm always here,
I'm never there.
I'm never, ever, anywhere
Except for here.
'Cos here is where I'm in

And when I go from,
Here to there
My here comes with me,
everywhere.
Till there is here,
And here is where I've been"

But alas I can't, oh well, should be fun anyway!

The art certainly looks more like the puppets than the animated series did...

(Also more than the Muppets comic did.)

And, I agree, Here to There is awesome. (And Let Me Be Your Song is my second favourite of the Fraggle songs.)

Which begs the question, what's your favourite?

Here to There. (The theme song is third, followed by Convincing John...if pressed, I'd say Dum Son of a Gun rounds out my top 5, though it gets harder to choose at that point. Hmmm... Funny, no two of them are sung by the same character, although both Cantus and John are performed by Jim Henson.)

I find it hard to imagine that there is a large enough audience for this.

Out of curiosity, why?

It's no more a niche market than many, and certainly less so than Tiny Titans.

Sales of the DVD's were pretty respectable, and this might actually attract the parents of young kids, who watched the show themselves to try actually giving it to the kids.

I would argue it's more of a niche than Tiny Titans. While Tiny Titans appeals to children+superheroes, this would have to appeal to those who watched Fraggle Rock, which hasn't been on TV since 1987 and on HBO, and also read comic books, and would want to read a comic book version of Fragggle Rock. That's pretty damn narrow.

I'd say it would appeal to the target audience it was intended for; kids in general (as well as adults) who like Henson material (eg Sesame Street, or the Muppets, or the assorted Muppet-like projects Henson are still making (Mopatops Shop for example)), and that's a healthily large group. Given the worldwide success of Fraggle Rock (with multiple language versions tailored to different countries), I'd say that was a LOT wider than DC superhero comics can lay claim to nowadays.

Yep, also video released in the 90s, and 2000s, and it was only on pay TV in the US, at least in the English speaking world, being on over the air commercial or public television stations in Canada, the UK, and New Zealand (no clue if it aired in Australia)...

Here in Canada, it's showing daily on Teletoon Retro.

Also DVD's released in the 2000's and CD's of the music.

The UK had it's own version too, with the Canadian/US "Doc in his inventors shop" being replaced by the marvellous Fulton Mackay as "The Captain", keeper of Fraggle Rock Lighthouse (Fraggle Rock being a remote rocky island, probably off the West Coast of Scotland). Sprocket remained the same, of course.

Also DVD's released in the 2000's

I probably should have phrased that as 'video and DVD', since I was counting the DVD releases in the mention of the video releases.

Good point on the CDs (which I should have thought to mention, as this thread had me listening to the one I have).

And thanks for that link...I've wondered what the UK version was like since I found out there were different versions. (Especially given that it's the only co-production that completely changed the Outer Space segments.) Too bad they only have the OP, I'd like to see an actual Captain and Sprocket segment.

Luckily for we UK fans, a few years ago a (legal and proper) DVD set was released which contained about a dozen of the UK episodes. It was great to see Fulton in full flow again. He was well known in the UK for playing a hard-nosed, hardman prison officer in the sitcom "Porridge" (known as "Doing Time" in the USA), and also from the Bill Forsyth movie "Local Hero", so it was lovely to see him having a ball in a childrens series.

While cool, the best part of Fraggle Rock was the music. That's gonna be difficult to translate to comics.

Fair point. Luckily I have a CD or two to fall back on... :)

I wonder if they might try rhyming poetry.

Gods, I miss Jim Henson. It's hard to believe he's been gone over 20 years. Yay for the return of Fraggle Rock!
