A little Thursday morning magic for us all

They're finally advertising the Zatanna ongoing over at the DCUblog; they've even got some inks up.




I don't think I've ever seen a Roux interior before. I'm not crazy about the cut of Zee's leotard, but look at that bottom corner panel: perfect opportunity for a thrusty ass shot on that girl, and he didn't take it. I consider that a very promising sign.

You must admit, though, it's a pretty good twist on the offhand backhand. You see a lot of those in comics, a little variety and uniqueness goes a long way.

Oh, sure. Mostly, joking aside, I'm curious if it's her signature move now. The same way we expect Batman to shoot off a grappling hook or Wolverine to snikt his claws, will Zatanna change attackers to rabbits?

Fishnets still show off the thighs, and personally, I find the combination on Zee (along with the cape) to be *seriously* hot.

But then again, I am a big dumb male, so your fashion mileage may vary. ;)

because instead of having the expected "long legs in fishnets" look, you have the person look over the whole outfit, then do a double take when they realize that not only is the girl wearing sexy boots, but she's also wearing sexy fishnets, but in away that neither conflicts with the other.

I'm full of hope this is going is to be full of cracky characters (the lady with the Venus Fly Trap hair is a good start) improbable solutions to demented plots, and Zee being all stylish and heroic and cheerful while getting to play dressup every now and then.

I find I can take a little cheesecake if it is otherwise nice art, and this is very nice art. Give it a good colourist and writer and I might even pick it up.

I'm going to be seriously disappointed if we don't get some more Zachary exposure out of the Zee ongoing. Yes I know she's the headliner, but we've had MAYBE half a dozen times seeing them together since he was introduced four years ago. That just ain't right.

Particularly in the wake of her dad's soul-death, I think some family bonding is in order.

That is if whoever's in charge of the Super-books right now lets Zach come back from being Put On A Bus. Grrrr....

Well, the blog interview with Dini says he plans to have Zach around a lot, though more in the vein of conflict than bonding.

The art's nice; Roux on interiors was a bit of a question mark for me.

Magic characters like Zee generally work best when fighting other magicians, so what sorts of foes Dini comes up will be interesting.
