Being Batman is pretty much a huge weight on Bruce, sometimes even he does not want to be Batman but he doesn't want anyone else to be Batman and it would eat him away if he just gave up being Batman partly because he is a genuinely good person and it's something he's dedicated his whole life towards.
The Cass/Bruce relationship is one of the most unique Bat-relationships ever because they are both pretty much mirror images of each other and Cass is one of the few people out there whom Bruce could truly relate to. I don't agree that he would have treated her like that but would do something different and I would argue that he would have a similar stance to Babs here. IMO, if anyone could really have Bruce willingly come out his dark, brooding persona even for a while it would be Cass Cain.
Heck, I would also say that the Bruce/Steph relationship could have been interesting relationship as well considering that 'War Drums' story.
