[personal profile] mystery posting in [community profile] scans_daily

I was just thinking about the flying Batmobile and how I don't like it now, but I didn't mind it so much in ASBAR. Maybe because everything in ASBAR is so out there and obviously an AU as opposed to canon. It's also because of the way the car itself is drawn, turns out. And how it's on the ground a lot of the time. Anyway, thought I'd share some ASBAR pics. And one page (the last one here) that made me smile because it's just so. darn. dramatic.

These are from All-Star Batman and Robin #2 and #4.

What is happening here? Is Vicki Vale in some kind of ballet rendition of Batman?

That panel of Alfred holding Vicki never fails to make me laugh.

LOL, seriously. I can't get over the hypermasculinity throughout this comic.

A testament to Jim Lee's abilities is he can make Alfred hot.

On the other hand, I don't like when the batcave is a freekin' small city. That's way too much for Bruce, Alfred, Dick and Harold to build in less than twenty years. Dinosaur, check. No penny, oops, that's gonna cost you. No playing card, another oops. I'm sorry, you're score is FAIL. Why would Bruce not keep the armor in a room in the mansion? Trophy cases that no one gets to see.

I'm glad Alfred was there to catch her.

-snerk- Me Too. I wonder if they did an awesome musical number afterwards...

Why do I get the feeling I would just get really annoyed or angry reading ASBAR?

Is there a reason Alfred's shirtless?

I'm a little confused on whether DC expects us to take this seriously. It was published as a joke, right?

I've finally figured out ASBAR; it's a much-better-drawn version of the sort of comics that junior high school kids do in study hall.

Alfred was already hot, he never felt the need to be a bodybuilder, and that was one of the things that MADE him hot, this is just... bleuch!

And as for the trophies, just remember that a lot of them (indeed originally, nerly all of them) only arrive dAFTER Dick started working with Batman, it's been a mainstream retcon that Batman met most of his nemeses before Robin showed up whereas in truth Joker, Catwoman, Penguin, Two-Face and the list all appeared fighting the Dynamic Duo, not the... ummm Magnificent Mono?

I always thought that a LOT of Frank Miller stuff tended to come across as very... Well... Gay.

Oh, just in time! I just finished watching Sin City on the recommendation of a friend. My initial reaction was to be revolted, then later on in stitches at how over the top it was -- so much so that it treaded on cartoon territory (kind of like watching Wile E Coyote blowing up himself over and over, but in black & white and with real people)

As I was watching, I couldn't help thinking "This is just like ASBAR!"

I seriously don't know what to think of Frank Miller. When I previously saw the scans of the opening panels with Vicky parading in her undies, I was (like most women readers) really disgusted, but having read the rest of her scenes, especially where she stands up to the cop in order to protect Dick, I thought he didn't do too badly with her.

So, does anyone know if this series is still going to continue? Didio mentioned something last Dec that they were "re-evaluating" the book, but I didn't really understand what that meant. I wish he'd just stop being so coy.

LOL! Wouldn't it be great if that were true. Miller's answer to Morrison's "hairy chested love god".

Hey, I'm a man reader and I still felt uncomfortable reading that...

But the while book is crazy and over the top, and it doesn't seem to take itself seriously. I kinda like it for that.

"It's schway!"

"It's SWARBAGE!"

(Pretty much summarising reaction to ASBAR in a nutshell!)

That's the thing, no one's sure. DC might have done, but Miller doesn't seem to have written it from that POV.
