I'm going to guess that when this turns out to be the raving King of Crime or whatever from the prophecy Dick won't say, "Gee, I guess I should have listened to myself for the past 20 years when I had no desire to use the Laz Pit on anybody I loved because I believed it wouldn't really be them."

I came from Gotham to London on the trail of a religion of sin dating from the dawn of time. They worship gods of evil. They have a Bible of Crime that prophesies the rise of a Black Messiah at the dawn of the Age of Crime.

Damn it Morrison, no superhero would talk that way, because the way the dialogue is phrased suggests that Batwoman thinks there is some validity to their religion (in the sense that its a valid religion if you accept evil) and because it assumes that Dick is a complete idiot who needs things to be explained in minute detail.

Agreed! And it's followed by: There was some kind of narcotic in the soot. Then they put me in that coffin. The sacrifice failed. So much for the prophecy. There's no god of evil in there, only Batman.

Welll... the way divinity works in the DCU, all religions are valid. It's just a matter of how many believe.

Don't know how well Kate'd know that, but if she had no idea, I doubt she'd forget Final Crisis.

Where in her statements is there any hint that she gives any credence to their beliefs? Because they say they worship gods of evil? They do, they repeatedly say so.

Sure they do--back in the day they had characters explain the situation all the time because they assumed that every comic was somebody's first. I guess he's doing that in a way that will be more palatable to a modern audience.

I don't see anywhere that says conclusion.

Instead we get Exposition Batwoman.

I have this theory I'm thinking about that Damian's not in London because he'd have to be telling Dick that Dick's wrong, otherwise he'd be a part of this mistake, too. The next arc after this is Dick versus Damian and if Damian was a part of this pit thing, he wouldn't be able to berate Dick about it. If, you know, that was something Damian would ever do.

I have to say, say what you will about how Morrison is mishandling Dick's character and so forth, but he certainly knows how to put together a good cliffhanger. Batman - or something that THINKS it's Batman - as a black messiah for a crazy international cult primed to unleash hell? Boo-yah. I must see what happens next, I must.
