Emma Frost brainwashes her students and then cooks them breakfast

Emma Frost has yet again turned-evil-only-not-really and spirited her students out of "danger" to a mansion where she brainwashes them into pliantly accepting their new circumstances and dresses one of them up as a cheerleader (I think you'll be pleasantly surprised who). No, it's not a V.C. Andrews novel, it's Generation X. I'd give you more context, but the talking frog does it for me.

Adventures, naturally, occur, but since I only have seven pages, we'll skip ahead to Emma's triumphant reappearance.

Well, that's just... weird! Isn't M immune to external psi-interference like Emma's?

..If you could turn into diamonds, wouldn't you? I'd sell my fingernail clippings!

... Jubes is hot.

That is all.

Jubilee clearly has the best fashion sense in the group.

Agreed. Though there's just something about Ev getting his Hendrix on...

yes she is. I wish more artists would acknowledge it.

This is something that's been driving me mildly nuts, especially since I currently have most of Gen X at my fingertips.

Where did the two guys who look like Artie and Leech (but who I know AREN'T) come from?

They worked for Emma in the early Gen X issues. They popped up, then vanished again never to be mentioned again. One of the loose ends which Lobdell never had the chance to tie up. (If they were ever meant to be anything more than general grunts and a colorist had a bit of fun with them, anyway.)

... I totally thought it'd be Synch who dressed up as a cheerleader.

Not that it matters, but I never knew that Monet was Black.

Or is this one of those Psylocke things where she changed ethnicity at some point?

More like one of those "The Artist/Writer/Both forgot".

And she is from Monaco, so she's more tanned than black, but thats besides the point.

Actually, her mother is Algerian, wasn't she?

Ehhhhh... Soooo, uh - why, exactly, is she psi-controlling them into being a gangster, a cheerleader, a hippie and a clown? At first, I was thinking that this might be an 'expression of their inner selves' sorta thing, but while Jubes might conceivably fit as a gangster - her life as a homeless 'mall-rat', and all that, which counts as an illegal lifestyle, I guess - and Monet might - MIGHT - fit as a cheerleader, if we stretch the boundaries of possibility a bit, Skin is NOT a hippie, and Paige is NOT a clown. He's a vato from the barrio, she's a farmgirl - neither of those things have anything to do with hippies or clowns. So this must be Emma's doing, and my question is - why is she doing it?

Maybe it's some sort of subconscious in-your-face-Emma rebellious side effect of being mind-controlled into going with her and outwardly accepting her authority, like obeying your parentally-imposed curfew but dying your hair green. Emma looked pretty surprised when they walked in wearing those outlandish outfits.

Personally, I would guess that she is SUBCONSCIOUSLY making them dress/act like that, but her conscious mind has no idea why. Everyone seems pretty confused as to just why they're there in the first place, including her, so it would make sense that only part of her mind is actually aware of what's going on.

she's being affected by Onslaught's disruption of the Astral Plane which is resulting in her mind control making them all screwy in the head. By the way that's Ev not Angelo.

Oh - right. Whoops. The fact that his skin isn't grey should have been a dead giveaway.

Monet has a major case of the giggles. Probably has something to do with the other costumes.

Old-School Gen-X was fun and underrated.

.. damn. I read the title as "cooks them FOR breakfast"

Imagine my disappointment when I found out I was wrong ):
