They've had that problem from the outset, Star Sapphires have never really struck me as purple, more pink.

Presumably because then Indigo and Violet would look too similar.

Purple and violet aren't the same thing. Purple is the combination of blue and red wavelength. Violet is its own wavelength.

(Incidentally, true violet cannot be produced by a computer monitor using the RGB system.)
