So what did you guess? When Dinah was kidnapped and tortured? When Connor almost died? When Roy lost an arm or went through a drug withdrawl? When he had to pretend that his wife's daughter had died? Nope.

Ollie and Hal fucking each other is possibly the best curse I could think to place on them, and frankly the one they'd never understand was a curse.

I know, hurf durf slash OTP and all that, but has Ollie ever deliberately killed anyone else?

Also, Dinah is sporting some Peej-level chestage there.

I think he killed the guy (guys?) who captured and tortured Dinah in The Longbow Hunters.

You know what gets me even more than the whole worst day thing? The important thing about Mia is that she's a girl. Ooooo. Not that she's resourceful, tough, or smart, but that she's a "cute, spirited girl". Really? That just came off as pretty sexist to me.

It's Ollie. Sexist, yes. In character, also yes.

Also, it's pretty funny that this takes place after Roy was mauled and (presumably) Mia and Lian went MIA in Star City. And yet, the worst day of his life is still shooting the guy who came back seven times.

So....the worst day in Ollie's life wasn't when:

*Dinah was raped
*the 3 times Connor was mortally wounded
*the day Ollie DIED
*Finding out about Roy's addiction

But was actually when he fired an arrow into a (seemingly) off his rocker Hal Jordan that didn't kill him.

Dinah wasn't raped. And actually doing the act against someone you love is a different kind of horrible than someone else doing it. Ollie had to take responsibility for killing his best friend, never mind that didn't take.

As for Roy's addiction, Ollie has a number of ways to justify that one to himself, or to see the "bright" side to it by Roy being "strong enough" to overcome that.

Yep, because you could never regard you having to betray your best friend and kill him that way as the worst thing you ever had to do *sarcasm*

Really folks? Really? Just because he doesn't feel like Dinah being tortured (which he couldn't have prevented and wasn't his fault) or Roy losing his arm (see above) or losing his whole city (see above) is as bad as the fact he had to kill his best friend with his own hands, that's once again the proof he's a jerk?

Prejudiced a tiny bit?

PS: Just because the above examples aren't his worst day doesn't mean he didn't suffer because of them.

Yeeah. I still think the shame he (should have) felt over how he totally botched dealing with Roy's addiction should have been mentioned. It's at least as bad as walking out on Connor.

There are plenty of people out there that are a lot like Ollie Queen. Folks that mean well, but don't think about how some of their own words and actions contribute to the problems they're speaking out against.

It's too bad there can't be any lasting character development in comics. It would be nice to see Ollie finally "get it". I like him. I just think he's been written very badly for too long. Everything that people complain about could be the beginnings of truly compelling stories.

I don't really think this is so bad. I can see where Ollie would feel worse about having to activly try and kill Hal than other people hurting people he loves. And, as I remember, both Hal and Kyle were believed dead for a year in-comic time after Zero Hour. So Ollie spent at least a year believing he'd killed his best friend. I can see where that'd stand out over family members getting hurt but surviving.

Yeah, it's a little odd, but really, it's not that unusual. Hell, at least they're acknowledging Zero Hour at all. As opposed to running around shouting "Fear monster!"

I can see that. Watching your loved ones suffer is one thing... being responsible for the death of a loved one is quite another.

Also, Ollie had to come to terms with the fact that he'd be missing months of sweet, sweet Hal ass. *weeps for their love*

We've seen multiple pieces of evidence that Cry For Justice occurs before Blackest Night (the BL JLA tie-in starts with a bunch of JLer's complaining about Prometheus's attack, and the most recent issue of Titans clearly takes place after Cry For Justice and before Blackest Night Titans.)

I think Ollie is in character here. While Zero Hour is generally mediocre, the ending comes off as hitting Ollie really hard (killing Hal was part two of a one two punch; if I remember correctly he also took the face-heel-face sacrifice of alt-Batgirl fairly hard before that.)

I'm amused by the BL cover homage to GL/GA, although he needs Hal screaming something like "Never Again" for full effect.

I've never even seen Hal get killed by Ollie.

Didn't he get arrowed by Ollie and then show up later in Final Night? Then Hallax revived Ollie who was dead at the time? When did Ollie kill Hal?

Date: 2010-02-20 01:51 am (UTC)
From: [personal profile] zordboy
It was the end of "Zero Hour". A bunch of heroes are wrestling with Parallax, Kyle holds Hal in place, and Ollie nails him with an arrow.

It didn't kill him though. Parallax kicked around the DCU for a while, and then showed up in "Final Night" to restart the sun. And then Hal died.
