Ted Grant, personal trainer to sexy vigilante women!

I just had to add this. My only wish is that Wildcat would have walked away saying .... "Darn whippersnappers...!" XDDD

I love the way Dini writes Eddie's inner monologue here. Eddie, you sneaky, narcissistic bastard.

I read this and I was like... That was good. I'm liking this Eddie --- OH SNAP.

Preview for Batman 699....

Eddie! Oh Eddie! What happened to your lips! And that's Dick, posing on a pile of garbage or something....

I really did love this book. It seems like it's going to be Eddie's last hurrah as a PI before Daniel puts him back to his older supervillain days.

Yeah, I have to say I love the idea of Riddler as a private detective as opposed to a super villain.

Same here. I think it has to do with the fact that it shows that the villains can actually learn and progress and do SOMETHING different.

Me too. The Riddler as a villain was never that impressive, for me. Too similar to The Joker, and never really able to stand out on his own.

As a PI, he was much more interesting, especially on those occasions when Batman used him to get info, or even worked with him, rather reluctantly.

But I guess if both Harley and Ivy are reformed, as they currently appear to be, having Nigma as an anti-hero type as well is a bit of overkill.

and even as a private detective he is kinda villainous, he does it for the money. pure and simple. he's greedy, he's good at what he does, but he's greedy, and he needs to prove he can

That's kind of how I'd imagine a movie Riddler to be if they used him for the next Batman movie; A famous detective who's willing to reveal the truth about Harvey Dent, regardless of the damage it would cause, just to prove himself right.

And also someone whose willing to hire muscle bound criminals like Bane and Killer Croc and turn them loose on the city just to lure out Batman.

I'm really curious what the Penguin's problem with the Gotham Girls might be. He's got the Lounge, they have their own place. "Birds of a feather" didn't make sense yet.

Happy to see that Eddie did eventually ask Pam to untie his secretary.

Pam has a new power in chameleon colors. If you don't like her green, she can change to peachy-pink at will. Pam with a nine-to-five day job? That doesn't sound like her at all, can't last long. She could have her own landscaping business and really rake in some cash.

I've never heard of this guy at the end of the book, but I hope Eddie kicks his ass. Add me to the list of those who would rather see Eddie match wits against criminals rather than misuse his talents being one, especially if he still has to drop a hint every time.

Heh! Selina's already got a pet shop at the GCS. :) Hope her kitties got out with Harley's hyenas...

But really, how long can you have Harley working for you before the insurance company calls to cancel your policy? Better she stays at home watching cartoons and surfing the net. XD

I do kinda see a resemblance to Irish actor Cillian Murphy (best known to this crowd prolly as Scarecrow from Batman Begins) in the cover drawing tho:

Well, in this case it's easy for him because the Sirens are colleagues of his, and he knows their habits and equipment. For example, a regular P.I might not be aware of the quality of Harley's makeup, or that Selina's claws are diamond-tipped - it's not like either of those things are common knowledge. (Also, note the telling fact that he says 'Oswald', not 'Penguin', which makes perfect sense, since, as has been shown in the past, Eddie and the Penguin are actually pretty good friends, at least insofar as competing villains CAN be friends.)

Keep in mind that that last image is SUPPOSED to make you go 'What?! NO! It can't be!', and run off to buy the comic to find out what's going on. Maybe Eddie IS going back to being a villain, and maybe he isn't, but either way, I doubt that the cover is an accurate portrayal of just what's going on.

Precisely. It's VERY rare to find a cover that portrays exactly what's going on - if it did, what would be the point of buying the comic? That's what the covers are for - to give you a tantalizing taste of what may or may not be the real thing.

Well, you COULD come up with a very different version of the DCU if you went solely by the covers. In the cover version, for example, the villains always win, Superman has died and come back to life about a million times, and the JLA goes through bizarre transformations at the drop of a hat. (Of course, this is going by today's covers - if you went by the covers of, say, the Golden or Silver Age, you'd get a far different - and substantially more bizarre - version.)

Wasn't it already confirmed in interviews that he was going back to straight up villainy, though? Or maybe I'm confusing him with someone else. Turning reformed villains back into baby-eating psychos (even when they weren't baby-eating psychos while they were villains) seems to be a popular thing with both of the big two lately.

Well, yes, it may have been, but even at his absolute looniest, Eddie has never approached the level of Joker-esque insanity that seems to be portrayed on that cover. His shtick has always been 'riddle me this - I'm FINALLY gonna outwit Batman!' rather than 'Nyahahaha, you all shall DIEEEEEEEE!' I mean, yes, as you say, making villains uncharacteristically psychotic HAS been a bit of a trend lately, but still, I doubt it would make much sense to do that to Eddie. We'll have to wait and see.

I think, honestly, that with the amount of crime and the WEIRDNESS of some crimes in Gotham Riddler would have more fun solving crimes than committing them...

...okay, maybe not, b/c committing crime can be fun. o/
