Ok, goofy question but...

I was digging through every box of stuff I own the other day, looking for a particular RPG book (Gamma World if you care) and I found my eighth day cross over event comics.

in case you forgot, or managed to block it from your memory, it was where the eight elder beings that Dr Strange often called upon (Balthakk, Farallah, Ikonn, Krakkan, Raggadorr, Valtorr, Watoomb, and Cyttorak) decided, hey let's fight over the world through our avatars.

and it made me wonder, seeing as Strange is calling on Cyttorak when he uses the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak, what would happen if he tried to restrain the Juggernaut with them?

for legality

guess it'd be like over in Avengers Initiative, when Nightmare's kid tried to use his powers on the Hood, who was then drawing power from Dormammu

kind of a " Sorry, doesn't work; the source of your powers and the source of mine have a truce going on, no dice " situtation

I've often wondered as well, I presume it'd have a similar effect like dividing by zero. KABOOM.

Alternatively the bands would probably be much weaker compared to someone tapped directly to Cyttorak so I'd assume Juggy would break through them but it'd take a while.

You could also argue either of the following.

Juggernaut will feed off the bands, becoming stronger.
The bands will feed off of Juggernaut.

My bet would be that as the Juggernaut is the chosen avatar of Cyttorak, and Doctor Strange's spell is merely a begging invocation, that Stranges bands wouldn't last long against Juggernaut, akin to trying to stop an avalanche with a thin layer of ice.

Gamma World was the only non-typical-fantasy PnP RPG I ever tried. The options for character mutation table I remember being quite entertaining.

I guess we'd find out which of them Cyttorak liked more....

My money's on Juggy.

They actually addressed this kind of thing in the Dr. Strange/Dr. Doom graphic novel, when they had to pass a test by freeing the Genghis from an energy field placed by the Vishanti. They couldn't invoke the Vishanti against it -- it would have no effect.

Okay, since this is such an awesomely ridiculous question I simply HAVE to share this motivational poster I found in an old archived folder.

I believe the crimson bands are proof against any amount of physical force (Strange has restrained the Hulk with them before), but have to agree that they probably either wouldn't affect Juggernaut or just wouldn't appear at all given that he's Cyttorak's chosen avatar on earth.

It is possible that the spells used to counter the bands would be similarly effctive against all of Juggernaut's powers, however.

just for giggles, have we ever seen a magical countermeasure against the crimson bands?

I don't know of a specific counterspell being established, but that jacked-up Super Skrull at the end of the Illuminati limited series was able to dispel them, and I think other foes of Strange's have been able to escape in the past.

Adding to the consensus: Juggie's link to Cyttorak would seem to trump Strange's in this case. Though if I were Strange, I think I'd simply use a different invocation.

Adding a question: There's an ancient paradox which goes "What would happen if an in irresistible force met an immovable object?" I've sometimes wondered about the Marvel Universe version of that:

What would happen if Juggernaut ran at full speed directly into the Blob?
