LITTLE DOT

In the last Harvey post, the subject of dickery came up.
Well, nobody does dickery better than Little Dot....

Little Dot began as a supporting feature in "Sad Sack Comics" #1, September 1949. She looked very different from the way she is drawn today, and her obsession with dots was not as evident. It wasn't until 1953, when Dot received her own book, that she was redesigned in the familiar Warren Kremer style and took on the "Harvey" look.

In The Simpsons episode "I Am Furious Yellow," Marge overhears Bart trying to come up with a comic book character and says, "Why don't you rip off Little Dot? I mean, who would know?"

She was a fairly one-note character; hence the constant stream of kooky aunts and uncles to give her something to do other than orgasm over everything dotted. Her grandparents must've been extremely devout Roman Catholics or extremely devout Orthodox Jews to have produced so many kids.

Somehow I don't think those natives are supposed to speak like ridiculous Native American stereotypes. :p

In a tall tale made up by a ten-year-old? Of course they would.

A reference to the Piltdown Man? Interesting!

Can't say I've ever heard of this character, and don't feel I've missed a whole hell of a lot by that absence.

Pulling generic dots out of her bag seems halfway between Felix the Cat and the Polka-Dot Man (http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/6060/162964-18058-112470-1-detective-comics_super.JPG)

It'd be awfully tiresome of me to keep on grumbling about how much I hate Harvey through every one of these posts - so I won't, though it takes an effort. But I WILL say that having an obsession with dots is one of the more useless character traits I've ever heard of - and this is from someone who used to occasionally buy an issue of 'Little Dot'. I thought it was dumb then, and I still do now.

The only Little Dot story I remember is where somehow she was transformed into her Bizarro-self, Squareathy. She had a dress covered with squares and her IQ more or less doubled.
