skalja: Ultimate Spider-Woman posing like a BAMF (spider-man: pete/mj purple)
[personal profile] skalja posting in [community profile] scans_daily
Depending on your interpretation, this is either a belated entry to Gratuitious Butt Shot Week Fortnight Week, with bonus bondage and atrocious fashion, or it's the entry post for either Atrocious Fashion Week or Bondage Week (or both!), with lots of bonus butt shots.

I consider Spider-Man the Butt Champion of Marvel, if not all of comics, because the wild contortions he gets into with his spider-powers practically guarantee, oh, five butt shots an issue.

Viz.

Ross Andru was very fond of the ... I'm not sure how to call it other than "above the crotch perspective." To the best of my knowledge, though, it's not until the 80s that Spidey butt-shots start getting, er ... detailed.

Yeah, I'm speechless too.

Sometimes even if you can't clearly see Spidey's butt, it's still sort of implied.

(Sorry, no context for the dialogue on that one. You just have to imagine.)

Todd McFarlane, like him or hate him, revolutionized the way Spider-Man is drawn, but his successor Erik Larsen was the one with more memorable butt shots:

And let's not forget Colleen Doran's Spidey filling out his jeans, with bonus Bad Fashion Action!

These aren't exactly butt shots, but ... just look and you'll understand, okay? Some things just NEED to be on scans_daily.

Somewhat distressingly, this is John Romita Jr. work, and late in his first ASM run at that. I can only assume that he was traumatized by his own sartorial choices.

But fast-forward seven years, and it's time for Mark Bagley to make his Spider-Man debut ... with a butt shot in the very first panel!

It's bondage with a butt shot bonus! Spider-Man has a history of this. See also, "The Most Awesome Cover John Romita Sr Ever Drew":

Butt shots with shiny digital coloring!

(Okay, the last one hardly counts, but ... c'mon.)

A butt shot for each side during Civil War, plus some extra...

And to finish off, the one good thing about Brand New Day is the art team, which means ... consolation butt shots!

And this concludes (for now) the Spidey Buttstravaganza.

I think I'm going to need a minute to recover. That was quite a lot of butt.

You silly, it's not a butt shot when you're looking from the front! :D But there are a lot of great ones, and thank you kindly for them.

Peter in daisy dukes and a belly shirt - not too thrilling, but you're absolutely right, a fashion wrong that must be seen to be believed.

Giant scale model of its atomic structure! What a geek. :) Also literally out loud that he meant "nuisance" because "menace" might be copyrighted.

"THIS IS SPARTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

..sorry, had to get it out of my system.

I think it's mandated in all DD/Spidey shots, one of them must be upside down.

That one with the bare-midriff shirt--I'm sorry, I just need to say it, was 80s Marvel totally unaware that was in any way a somewhat, well, gay outfit?

I had a roommate once back in college who'd dress exactly like that for the Chicago Gay Pride parade day.

I think the artists of the time were still stuck in the 70s, when straight guys might actually wear something like that.

Or they had a Catherine Bach fixation, I'm not sure which.

Animal shirt and jean shorts...its awful...but...at least it finally puts a male character in skimpy clothing on pare with most female characters were all the time.

Bwahaha! That animal shirt always makes me laugh. Ahh... Spidey. *SIGH* second to Kurt in my favorite butt moments for me. There is something about those stealthy-types and their ass. *fans self and goes to watch Michelle-Pheifer-Catwoman-in-tight-black-leather-while-doing gymnastics-fanvids.
