Dazzler & Rogue suit up for the start of Atrocious Fashion Week!

Skalja got us started in her Spider-Butt post, with some of Peter's more...interesting 80s fashion choices. But when I think of bad 80s fashion, rendered oh so lovingly, my thoughts immediately turn to...



And there will be more, oh yes, there will be more once I get into my archive discs. But for now, a little something I found in Marvel Fanfare #38 when I was looking for my butt shot week posts.





Uh-huh. Okaaay. It was 1988, and Rogue does need to cover up completely. But let's turn to the back cover pinup for a closer look at Dazzler's club clothes, shall we?



And as a bonus, here's the Hot Cool Famous Dudes they hook up with, P.J. James and Makoto Suzuki.

And another bonus - the main story in MF #38 is a Moon Knight story called "Whatever Happened to the Podunk Slam?" I read the thing and I've still no idea, but let's meet our teen heartthrobs, shall we?



Ladies and gentlemen, the Podunk Slam. OK, those are stage clothes. But don't you want your stage clothes to look better than street clothes?

But wait! There's more! Somewhere trolling along the intarwebs I found a .cbr for something called the DC Fall Fashion Special 2001. Three pages plus covers.



....yeah. I'm takin' my fashion advice from DC. Sure.

I'm always hoping that DC would take a page from Marvel's book (as opposed to the other way around) and make a DC Summer Special. Fall Special? When all the heroes would be covered up? Who would want that???

Also, I'll give a pass to Podunk Slam since stage clothes are about making a statement appropriate to the song, and without knowing what the song is....

I think that those DC fashion things were sort tied into chracters, that looks a lot like Kon for example, and I think there was one which might, in a certain light, look like Tim.

I love doran's work. But A Distant Soil's got some fashion choices in it that made me cringe, even then.

Now that I recall, Rogue has always had awful fashion taste. Dazz is excused on account of being a musician, of course.

Can I request scans of the original feud between Rogue and Dazzler? Never read the entire thing, just the end fight.

I shall see if I can find it once I dig out the archive disk. Like Ali's little sister, I did enjoy watching crazy!evil!Rogue's antics at the time, so I'm sure I've got it someplace.

Someone at Marvel REALLY lied the whole yellow/green scheme, since they have like a dozen who wear costumes with those ugly, ugly colors.

Ah, the 80's. Parachute pants. Zubas. Men getting perms. Shoulder pad overload for women. Yeah. I don't miss them. Now the cargo pants on the guy in the last scan--I would love to be able to find a pair that would actually fit me right. I love pockets.

Oh god! I had forgotten about the big hair. Bwa ha ha! In one of my yearbooks a girl's hair was so big that they had to pull the camera back. Her face was about 1/2 the size of everyone else's on the rest of the page. It is so hilarious.

Maybe it's just me, but personally, I don't find these outfits all that atrocious - the Podunk Slam's, yes, but those are stage clothes; they're SUPPOSED to be eye-catching and bizarre. Then again, I just watched 'Starstruck', so my inner fashion meter may still be tuned to "'80's".

Well... I'd kinda dress up Rogue's style - minus the haircut. But then, I have a huge softspot for atrocious 80s/early 90s fashion (and I was brought up on 'Jem and the Holograms' - and still love it ;P), sooo... Maybe I should just shut up.

You ask me, ALL fashion is pretty stupid if you take a look at it, so preferring one decade's dress sense over any other's makes little difference. Go ahead and keep talkin'. (After all, I still am, and the stuff I wear has NEVER been fashionable.)
