flidgetjerome: Hark, a Vagrant #328 (Default)

Having spent yesterday mocking some of the fashion choices of the Avengers ladies, now it's the gentlemen's turn.

Okay, so I went for the obvious target;

We open with T'Challa's jet out of control and about to crash.

It's mostly an excuse to make Clint suddenly incompetent and insecure about his lack of powers.

They get back to the Mansion safely anyway.

Ah yes. We can blame this outfit on Jan too.

(The fact that Jan basically entrapped a mentally-ill man into marriage would eventually get retroconned in the Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes miniseries but, man, that was the state of canon for a surprisingly long time.)

Um. Yeah.

Fortunately for Clint that whole "size-changing made Pym crazy" retro-con never managed to stick . . .

Clint was actually Goliath for quite a while, nearly three years. Then the Kree-Skrull War happened and he went MIA and the next time he shows up, it's in this . . .

For once, Janet van Dyne is not at fault for that outfit. There's no real origin story for it or anything beyond Clint and Hercules having joined a traveling circus together for a while.

That's not even Clint's actual circus outfit. Clint's circus outfit was just a purple variation on Herc's outfit (Clint apparently deciding that Herc rocked the manskirt so hard that he should join him) and then he apparently decided what that look really needed was a plunging v-neck.

The look didn't last very long, about ten issues from when Clint first put it on to when he realises that what works as fanservice on a woman doesn't always work on on a man.

But, y'know? Maybe Clint's only problem was that he was being too fashion forward.

A year after he gave up the look all the cool kids were sporting the plunging neckline.

Ah well. Gone, but not forgotten.

Hey, a swan is strong enough that it can break a man's arms with one swipe of it's wings. I'm sure a suitably irate duck could do some serious damage to your ankle if you gave it a head start...
