Mar. 17th, 2010 03:03 pmThis is from Green Lantern Corps #46, by Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason.

Kyle gets dragged into the refrigerator (which has a Black Lantern symbol magnet)...

Alex says that Kyle is responsible for her death and tries to force him to kill himself by using his own ring against him.

"...I won't!"
Kyle destroys the fridge, then gets the Indigo Tribe's Munk to help him sever the connection with the Black Lantern. Kyle tells Alex to rest in peace.

Date: 2010-03-17 07:19 pm (UTC)...Eesh. Though I guess there's no real line they could make that make it NOT sound like that's the only way to give Kyle character.
Still, didn't they already do the fridge shtich in another BN tie in?

Date: 2010-03-17 08:04 pm (UTC)I think the Jade one came off as worse to me, this one, I guess, satisfied me in the sense that there seemed to be just a tad bit more expression from him. In the end, though, his entire reaction DID seem to be "Oh god that's horrible, anyway you have to die, ilu bye"
Maybe he's just more hardened after the SCW and everything he's gone through? I have no idea. The dialogue was meta-bad though, too. Yes, the existence of women in men's lives is always to make them a better person and to teach them to grow up. Then it's off with them!!
I really wish we got Kyle's mother, Maura/Moira, to come into this, or he had a confrontation with Black Lantern Donna Troy ...but the way his interactions were written with Jade and Alex make me a bit grateful I guess that that isn't so.
(On another note, I am so miffed I did not see Starfire vs. BL!Donna, or BL!Ice vs. Fire)

Gotta agree on the dialogue, since that seems to be where most of my annoyance is coming in. It's like they had to cram in some kind of apology, but couldn't be arsed to make it sound...fuck, anything but bland and trite with this shit. This was, like, breakup by text message level of seemingly not giving a damn. A Hallmark card sounds more sincere than this.

Date: 2010-03-17 08:16 pm (UTC)So I guess I wanted the Alex thing to be a bit better. I still liked it the best out of everything that's happened to him in Blackest Night, which has been a crap event for Kyle in my eyes, but I can see how other fans would like it I guess :|

Date: 2010-03-18 09:45 am (UTC)See, applying a relative scale makes everything better! <3
I was expecting grosser things from Alex and the fridge, this was decent in the end, even with the melodramatic dialogue - that might have sound a little less forced if written as thoughts instead of proper dialogue but let's not be too much of a prick.
Visually, i really like the 'world inside the fridge', distorted and antigravitational. It's cool.

Date: 2010-03-17 08:17 pm (UTC)Though, now that I think about it, I probably should be glad Soranik wasn't in this scene, or we probably would have gotten that again. The scene's bad enough as it is with the whole "hey, your unwilling sacrifice made me a better person" bullshit.
