Spider-Man: Siege preview shows that Marvel still can't tell the difference between the two Venoms

Seriously, Marvel? Mac Gargan became Venom in 2005. That's five years ago. Surely by now you'd expect people to know what he looked like, or at least know how to use Wikipedia.

I think he reverted back to his old look out of spending so much time trying to look like Black and White spiderman. I doubt it's a faux pas.

Marvel has been confusing the two even before Gargan became Spider-Man. This isn't a new thing with them.

Besides, even when he was a member of the Dark Avengers, he would still appear in some titles (such as Amazing Spider-Man) with the new look. So if reverting back to the old look is intentional (and if it is, then so much for originality) then they're not being consistent.

I've almost never remember seeing him as Black and White form in DA. He only uses it when he's in publicity things, otherwise he's the other venom.

And honestly, it's pretty clear they can't win either way here, if it's unintentional then it's lazy. but if it's intentional then, apparently it's unoriginal so why does it matter?

It doesn't take any more originality to use the new costume than the old one. Either way, you're using a pre-existing costume rather than creating an original one.

The point is, the new Venom's look was different enough to at least give him a distinctive look in comparison to the old one. So it's disappointing to see him looking exactly like Brock.

There's a joke in there about the ease with which Carol strips guys out of their clothes, but yeah, that was pretty cool.

Yeah Carol, good idea. Leave the symbiote hostless, jst a few feet away from the one guy it's been wanting to rebond with for years. Or other potential hosts with actual superpowers, who would be way mor dangerous in Venom form than Mac Gargan.

Yeah, they really make it look like the symbiot just swallowed Gargan as opposed to an actual symbiotic bond, which should be more "semi-permanent" or at least more difficult to remove the host without killing him.

Maybe the symbiot has been exerting more control over Gargan, hence the slow return to his original look? I doubt that Marvel will even bother to explain it. The continuity department probably just got tired of controlling how characters look.
