Okay, the question: has there ever been any explanation in the comics as to why the Guardians of the Universe didn't attempt to save Krypton from exploding (other than a real life reason like "then they wouldn't be able to print Superman comics")?

GLs can't be everywhere, and don't always know a disaster in advance.

If Krypton had been open enough to let GLs regularly visit, things may have been busy.
