Then again, no humans feature in any of those scans, and flood/temptation/brotherly murder/holy self-sacrifice myths are all over the world and its cultures. Perhaps Johns is referring to a prototype over-arching myth that all cultures share?

That still implies that one mythology supersedes all the others.

I kinda get bothered by that too. Partly it's just how omnipresent the Christian mythos are in North America, and the battles to defend against those who are convinced that they're not only true, but should inform policy on literally everything. So while I can handle that yeah, the Devil and Hell show up on a regular basis (and Etrigan is so fun), and angels now and again, plus Cain & Abel and so forth, but when it gets super-blatant like this it gets a bit uncomfortable.
