Especially since Scott let Danger and Omega Sentinel, two non-mutants (who tried to kill mutants no-less) join. Oh, and Namor and Warlock, who are mutants but who aren't offshoots from the human species.

Namor is technically a human mutant because of his winged feet which comes from his human father. Plus Marvel consider him the "First Mutant" I think that cements his status as a mutant.
